In a recent episode of the Broken Record Podcast, Justin Richmond interviewed Kesha on her new album, ‘Gag Order.’ Looking back on her early career, the musician admitted the success she now has was just a result of ‘weird luck.’
Kesha began by revealing she hasn’t really felt like a successful star even when her albums and songs brought her commercial success:
“It’s funny because I think it actually is helpful that I have these insecurities that I sing about on the record, and I’m pretty transparent about now in my life. I’ve never really felt that feeling of ‘I’m on top of the world’ even when I had the number one album in the country, even when my song broke records.”
Owing her success to ‘weird luck,’ Kesha then showed remorse for missing the chance for being a narcissist:
“I felt like it was all weird luck, and I never had that feeling of walking into a room and being like, ‘Suck my d*ck, b*tches!’ I wish I had a moment of that because looking back, I’m like, ‘F*ck, I should have at least had like a year of being a narcissistic a**hole, and I missed it.”
Kesha began to rise to success after being featured on Flo-Rida’s ‘Right Round’ in 2009. The same year, she released her single ‘Tik Tok,’ which broke the record for the highest-selling digital single. Her 2010 album ‘Animal’ and 2017’s ‘Rainbow’ were also chart successes.
On May 19, Kesha released her latest effort, ‘Gag Order,’ marking the last album she released under her contract with Lukasz ‘Dr Luke’ Gottwald’s former label Kemosabe Records. On June 22, both Kesha and Dr Luke announced that their sexual assault case was officially settled.
