Traveling the world, enjoying culinary delights, and taking in the beauty of foreign lands are all in a day’s work for Gwyneth Paltrow. Known not just for her acting talent but also for her lifestyle site, Goop, Paltrow has shared the secrets of her travel routine, lifestyle, and travel preferences in a 2016 Q&A with the New York Times.

Whether it’s a day flight or an overnight journey, Paltrow knows how to stay comfortable in the skies. Her routine includes drinking lots of water with a vitamin sachet, moisturizing her skin, and putting on a mask.

Her food choices are equally health-conscious, as she tends to pack salad and fruit, steering clear of unhealthy options. However, alcohol makes an appearance on overnight flights:

“If I’m going on an overnight flight, I’ll drink whiskey or a glass of wine and then go to sleep, but on day flights, I try not to drink.”

Upon landing, she seeks a sauna for 20 minutes to sweat out the plane’s germs. And when it comes to baggage, Paltrow is all about the carry-on, except when traveling to cold destinations where warm clothing is a must.

Paltrow’s eating habits while traveling shows her willingness to embrace the local cuisine. In Paris, she enjoys croissants; in Italy, it’s pasta; and in Spain, bread and cheese are on the menu. She’s not averse to enjoying wine everywhere she goes either. A highlight from her gastronomic adventures was a spicy Thai meal at Benz’s on Koh Kood Island in Thailand.

Interestingly, workouts don’t figure into Paltrow’s travel schedule. If she’s in a city for more than a few days, she might exercise, but her preference is to take a walk and explore:

“If I’m in Paris, I’d much rather take a walk and discover something amazing than be stuck on a treadmill at my hotel. If it’s more than a few days, I will work out because my body is so used to it, but my last trips have been short ones, and I haven’t.”

Paltrow’s views on what makes a great hotel room are simple: service, food, good sheets, and a comfortable bed. While she has stayed in luxurious accommodations, such as an $8,045/night Airbnb, she appreciates hotels that may be basic but offer excellent food and service.

As a mother, Paltrow knows the challenges of traveling with children, especially on long flights. Her solution? Games like UNO and Battleship, along with the essential iPad to keep her kids entertained.

Paltrow’s travel experiences are varied and exciting. Her favorite vacation spots include Mexico and Indonesia, and she has a wish list of places she’d love to visit, including Bhutan, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Iceland. Here is what she recalled about her travels to Mexico and Indonesia:

“I love going to Mexico. There’s a resort there called Cuixmala that’s incredible for kids. But the best vacation I’ve ever taken was with my kids to Indonesia. We stayed at a resort in Bali and then slept on a wooden boat for three or four nights and also hiked with the Komodo dragons. It was a magical trip.”

Her lifestyle site, Goop, is more than just a place for divorce descriptors and superpowered avocado toast recipes. Through it, Paltrow promotes her six-piece skincare collection, Goop by Juice Beauty, and shares her passion for travel and wellness.
