During its time on air, ‘Queer Eye’ has featured many remarkable characters, each with their own special story and path to self-discovery. However, behind the on-screen chemistry of Fab Five lies a surprising truth: Antoni Porowski and Karamo Brown didn’t quite click in real life during the first season of the show.
Apparently, the pair had their share of clashes and tension off-camera. Brown revealed to E! News in a May 2019 conversation:
“My castmate from ‘Queer Eye,’ Antoni, people didn’t know that we had an extreme amount of conflict. We did not talk to each other at all during season 1, even though we were shooting together.”
Still, there was a reason for their conflict, as the actor further explained:
“Our personalities got along, but then a third party got involved, and once that third party got involved, he and I couldn’t even talk to each other. We were too busy hearing rumors of what this third party was spreading about both of us.”
The two also talked about their early clash on Karamo’s podcast. They revealed rumors and an intense work schedule, spending nearly 80 hours a week with strangers, added to the difficulty. However, they managed to resolve their differences and never let their conflict affect their work. Brown said:
“No matter what we were going through, our intention on camera was always to help out heroes. And I respected this so much about Antoni, and I believe he respected this about me because we would be going through something, but once it was about this other person, we put out issues aside and said let’s help.”
Karamo added, referring to the show’s importance for them:
“So it wasn’t that we were being fake on camera; we knew there was a greater purpose, and a greater mission, outside of the B.S. we had going on behind the cameras.”
The seventh season of the Netflix series arrived in May 2023. Contrary to previous seasons having ten or eight episodes, the latest one includes seven episodes. The renewal for an eighth season of ‘Queer Eye’ has not been officially announced yet.
