Amy Waters Davidson is a name that might not ring as many bells as her famous son, comedian Pete Davidson. Yet, she is much more than just the mother of a celebrity. Amy has a story and a career in her own right, which we believe deserves attention. Here’s everything you need to know about her.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Amy has been practicing nursing for many years. Her journey to becoming a school nurse in Staten Island’s public school system started with her education at the College of Staten Island, where she pursued a degree in nursing. As of now, she works as a nurse at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn.
Amy was brought into the spotlight when her son Pete started making waves in the entertainment industry. However, she has always kept a low profile, preferring the calm and stable life her career offers rather than the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
Although she tends to stay out of the spotlight, Amy is often seen posting about her children on Instagram. In fact, she once made a fake Twitter account under the name @JoeSmith1355 and would respond to everyone who trolled Pete.
Davidson is a single mother, having lost her husband Scott Davidson in the 9/11 attacks when Pete was just 7.
Scott was a basketball player but later became a firefighter on 16th January 1994. The couple had two children, Pete and their second child, Casey. According to Pete, this tragedy has left a mark on him and influenced his path toward comedy:
“I tell my friends that all the time if my childhood was fine I’d probably be a construction worker in Staten Island and be the happiest guy ever. But that weird sh*t that it does to you, made me love comedy.”
Amy has made several appearances in interviews alongside her son, on SNL, and in a SmartWater commercial. Besides, she has often been referred to as Pete’s biggest fan and supporter.
Pete currently lives together with Amy in a house in Staten Island, a living situation that he often humorously mentions in his stand-up routines and interviews:
“We bought a house together, but nobody believes that. I live with my mom, kinda, so I have like a basement that’s like mine that’s like an apartment, so I live underneath her, so I’m getting like a little arcade set up down there trying to make it … mine.”
Pete’s close relationship with Amy and his appreciation for her support is evident in his comedy. Below, you can watch the SNL episode where he talks about living with his mother:
