The announcement was made on the band’s official Instagram page.

The drummer explained the reasons behind the decision and assured fans that the band remains in great shape. “Seeing a lot of concern and speculation…for the record: There’s absolutely no cause for alarm whatsoever,” Portnoy said. “Basically, it was a hard decision…but ‘the powers that be’ decided a 3rd run through EU would be overkill after going there 4 years in a row…and we felt it very important to be transparent with the fans that were promised/expecting a return in the spring.”

Portnoy stressed that everything within the band is positive and that they are continuing to have a strong touring year. “All is 100% awesome in the band and camp…nothing to be concerned about….honestly, the past year has been the biggest and best DT tour ever,” he continued. “We will still do our Asia/Oz tour Jan thru March…and there may still a little something after that as well.”

Dream Theater explained that they decided not to return to Europe and the UK in 2026 due to having toured the region four years consecutively. The group will proceed with their scheduled Asia and Australia tour from January through March.

The cancellation comes during what has been a milestone year for the progressive metal legends as they celebrate their 40th anniversary with a massive world tour.

The 40th Anniversary Tour has been one of Dream Theater’s most ambitious and acclaimed efforts yet, recognized for its impressive scope, setlist, and stage design. According to Prog Report, the tour kicked off in Europe in early 2025 and continued across North America, wrapping up in Uniondale, New York, on October 25, 2025.

The highly anticipated return of drummer Mike Portnoy after 13 years has been a central highlight, reinvigorating the band’s fanbase and critical reception. Prog Report also noted that many North American shows sold out, with the band performing three-hour sets featuring elaborate visuals and receiving overwhelming responses from audiences.

Sonic Perspectives praised Dream Theater’s continued technical mastery and emotional impact, noting that fans were equally enthusiastic about both classic hits and new material from their 2025 album Parasomnia.

Industry analysts believe this tour could be the band’s most successful ever, reflecting unprecedented energy and fan engagement throughout the anniversary celebration. The decision to forgo another European leg appears to be a calculated move to prevent market oversaturation after several consecutive tours in the region.

He shared his thoughts in a Facebook post.

Hall began by expressing his excitement about the event, noting that he had an amazing experience with the University of Illinois Marching Illini. However, a fan’s question led him to open up about the group’s potential reunion. When asked whether REO Speedwagon was finished or planning to continue, Hall gave a candid reply.

“Not sure to be honest,” Hall said. “Alan, Neal and I would love to tour! We need Kevin to join us. Hopefully he will want to as well.”

His comments indicate that while three members are eager to tour again, the future of a reunion largely depends on Kevin Cronin’s involvement. Hall’s remarks follow a historic reunion performance that rekindled fans’ hopes for more appearances by the classic lineup.

According to Rock and Roll Garage, the original lineup—Kevin Cronin on vocals and guitar, Bruce Hall on bass, Neal Doughty on keyboards, and Alan Gratzer on drums—came together for a special performance during the University of Illinois Homecoming event in late September 2025. It was the first time all four had shared the stage since 1988.

Serving as grand marshals of the parade, the band performed with more than 400 members of the university’s marching band during halftime. Their setlist included timeless hits like “Ridin’ the Storm Out,” “Roll With the Changes,” and “157 Riverside Avenue.”

The reunion fueled optimism about the possibility of a farewell tour. WIXY reported that Kevin Cronin mentioned they would “see what might follow the performance,” emphasizing the positive energy and commitment to fans. However, Cronin is currently touring with his own group, the Kevin Cronin Band, which features former REO Speedwagon members Dave Amato and Bryan Hitt as part of “The Brotherhood of Rock Tour” alongside Styx and Don Felder.

Ultimate Classic Rock added that another version of REO Speedwagon—featuring Bruce Hall, Neal Doughty, Alan Gratzer, Terry Luttrell, Mike Murphy, and Steve Scorfina—has plans for a one-off concert in Champaign in June 2025. The show will raise funds for the REO Speedwagon Foundation and will not include Kevin Cronin.

Whether a full reunion tour will happen remains uncertain as the band members continue to balance their individual musical projects.

He shared the update in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), addressing Cain’s farewell and reaffirming his dedication to continuing Journey’s legacy.

“Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight,” Schon wrote. “I’m nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead!”

He closed his message on a hopeful note about what lies ahead for the band. “I’m sure we will have a great tour!” he added.

This news follows years of public tension between Schon and Cain, who have long been key figures in Journey’s history. Despite their creative partnership, there has been no official confirmation from either Jonathan Cain or the band regarding his departure.

Cain joined Journey in 1980, succeeding original keyboardist Gregg Rolie, and became central to the group’s classic sound. According to American Songwriter, he co-wrote many of Journey’s biggest hits, such as “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Faithfully,” and “Open Arms,” helping the band achieve monumental success in the 1980s.

In recent years, however, Cain and Schon’s relationship has become increasingly strained. Stairway to 11 reported that the two openly discussed deep personal and professional conflicts that intensified between 2024 and 2025, involving financial management, touring choices, and the band’s direction. Matters escalated legally in July 2024, when Cain filed a lawsuit in Delaware accusing Schon of excessive spending on the band’s credit card.

Despite the disputes, there were hints of reconciliation earlier this year. Metal Wani noted that in October 2025, Schon shared a positive update, saying, “Everything is cool… I’ve had some great conversations with Jonathan lately and some great meetings with him for the first time in many years.” This suggested that communication between the two had improved and that they were “on the same page” regarding Journey’s future.

At present, there has been no official statement from Jonathan Cain or the band confirming his exit. Further updates are anticipated.

However, the nature of this so-called “ban” is more nuanced than it initially appears. According to Vice, Newsom’s statement is part of an ongoing satirical feud that parodies former President Donald Trump’s social media style. The post takes aim at conservative figures such as Kid Rock, a known Trump supporter.

The ban itself is not an official legal order but rather a political and social media stunt that has ignited debate about censorship and free speech. Louder Sound reported that Newsom’s parody has drawn widespread attention and divided public opinion. Some have criticized Kid Rock’s music, while others view the move as symbolic rather than punitive.

This form of satire has become increasingly popular among public officials, who use humor and exaggeration to make political statements. The Kid Rock “ban” exemplifies this trend—blending entertainment commentary with political messaging to spark conversation, drive engagement, and generate significant media coverage.

When discussing the band’s creative direction for their new album following the success of Pain Remains, De Micco reflected on how touring influenced his songwriting. “After touring Pain Remains, riffs or ideas I thought were cool didn’t land when we played them live,” De Micco said. “You realize a part is too complicated, or isn’t musical or digestible.”

He then shared an unexpected source of inspiration that helped shape his musical approach. “I was at the gym once and heard Guns ‘n’ Roses. Sweet Child O’ Mine is a terrible song – I hate Axl’s voice and don’t even like Slash’s playing, but it stands the test of time,” he explained. “Nowadays music comes and goes in less than a year, yet there are bands from 30, 40 years ago, and people are still excited to hear it, and I’m like, ‘How?’”

De Micco emphasized that this realization became central to his desire to craft music with enduring value. “That was my main inspiration – writing something timeless. I wanted to write a guitar lick that some kid wanted to learn. Crazy Train was mine and Andrew’s,” he continued.

This philosophy on timeless songwriting has had a direct impact on Lorna Shore’s latest work. According to Blabbermouth, the band released their fifth studio album, I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me, on September 12, 2025, through Century Media Records. The album marks a significant evolution from Pain Remains, featuring singles such as “Oblivion,” “Unbreakable,” and “Prison of Flesh.”

It showcases a more mature and developed sound that the band describes as the next level of what Lorna Shore represents. De Micco played a major role in shaping the guitar work, combining technical intensity with a focus on timeless songwriting—aiming to create music that transcends fleeting trends and holds lasting appeal.

Metal Insider noted that the band continues to push boundaries in extreme metal while incorporating a wider range of musical influences. De Micco’s dedication to creating memorable, enduring music highlights how even controversial opinions about classic rock can spark innovation in heavy music.

The band’s 2025 plans include a North American tour with The Black Dahlia Murder and Shadow of Intent, reinforcing Lorna Shore’s growing presence in the metal scene. Wikipedia also reported that a European tour is scheduled for early 2026, underscoring their expanding global reach and steady momentum following the new album’s release.

Sweet voiced his encouragement for Shaddix’s spiritual journey and reflected on the shared human experience of faith. “I’m very happy for Jacoby Shaddix,” Sweet said. “I’ve been saying for years that at some point, we all have a ‘God’ experience. Some of us rebel and deny Christ, and some of us accept and receive Christ. Jesus has given us all the opportunity to choose where we will go. Some choose sooner and some choose later. And sadly, many don’t.”

He went on to speak about the growing significance of faith as people age. “Personally, I believe as we get older, we start to understand and realize that we are not invincible,” he continued. “We all die. We just don’t know when. And we will all step into eternity. It’s the most important decision of our lives.”

Recently, Shaddix revealed that he had surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, saying, “I finally put the bottle down 13 years ago. More than 13 years ago. And about a year after that, I finally gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Changed my life forever. I have recently been convicted to share my faith walk with the world. I will be honest it’s been a rocky road littered with failure and sin but I continue to turn my will and my life over to the lord one day at a time. God keep doing your work on me! Praise Jesus!”

Shaddix’s spiritual rebirth has been a defining part of his personal evolution over the past decade. According to Cross Rhythms, the Papa Roach frontman became a Christian in 2012 after years of battling substance abuse. In the years following, he began speaking publicly about his faith at major U.S. events, sharing his story and even incorporating his beliefs into his music. In more recent interviews, the singer has been candid about his convictions. “I follow a man named Jesus, and I think he’s awesome,” Shaddix stated, underscoring how central his faith has become to his life.

His beliefs have also shaped Papa Roach’s artistic direction. Cross Rhythms noted that the band’s 2015 album F.E.A.R. features tracks with overt Christian themes, including “Devil” and “Hope For The Hopeless.” This period signified a new creative phase for a band once primarily associated with mainstream hard rock and nu metal.

Despite his deep religious beliefs, Papa Roach continues to tour and produce music that resonates with a wide audience. This balance highlights how Shaddix’s faith coexists with the band’s long-standing identity. His openness in merging his spirituality with his public role as a rock musician demonstrates his dedication to authenticity—both in his faith and in his art.

In an interview with Music Radar, he discussed how the band’s image evolved during the grunge era and how the shifting music landscape shaped his decision to leave.

Porcaro explained that his exit wasn’t caused by any internal tension. “There was no big fall-out when I took a break from the band,” Porcaro said. “It was the late-’80s and grunge/Nirvana was about to happen. Along with Journey, REO Speedwagon and Foreigner, we’d been lumped-in with the whole Corporate Rawk thing. We weren’t ‘cool’.”

He elaborated on how Toto’s musical direction began to diverge from his own creative role. “Toto were talking about getting back to a more rootsy, basic sound and they didn’t really need some guy noodling around with weird noises on synths – which was kind of my job,” he continued. “So, I said, ‘Is it OK if I go and do this other bunch of stuff?’”

Porcaro’s departure marked a turning point for the group. As a founding member, he had played a major role in defining Toto’s signature sound during their peak years.

According to A Breath of Fresh Air, Porcaro’s keyboard and songwriting contributions were key to Toto’s multi-platinum 1982 album Toto IV, which earned several Grammy Awards and produced classic hits like “Rosanna” and “Africa.” His melodic talent extended well beyond the band — he co-wrote and co-produced Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” from the 1982 Thriller album.

After leaving Toto, Porcaro embarked on a new chapter in his career. Apple Music noted that he built a successful path in film and television scoring while also becoming a sought-after session musician. His credits include contributions to Yes’s Union album, Jefferson Airplane’s 1989 reunion record, and The Chris Squire Experiment in 1992.

As musical trends changed in the late 1980s, Toto faced challenges adapting to the raw, unpolished aesthetic of grunge. Wikipedia records that the band disbanded in 1988 after releasing seven albums. Despite the pause, Toto eventually reunited with different lineups, continuing to tour and record, preserving their signature mix of rock, pop, and jazz fusion.

Porcaro later rejoined Toto around 2010, contributing keyboards, synthesizers, drum programming, and arrangements both on tour and in the studio. The same interview also delved into his collaborations with Michael Jackson and details about his solo work.

His comments came in response to a question about Sepultura’s role in shaping the worldwide metal scene.

“That’s what makes me proud; that bands can follow what we did,” Cavalera said. “Not just musically, but in attitude too. That’s the future of music. People who only listen to old stuff are fucking lazy.”

Cavalera highlighted Sepultura’s legacy of breaking boundaries and connecting cultures through their sound. “The first time we came out of Brazil, people were like, ‘What the hell is this?’ We were pushing the limits of music,” he continued. “And I still am now. People know me for metal, but this is an experimental noise thing. It’s all about connection. We were connecting Brazil to Japan, to everywhere. I want to keep my antennas open to new things.”

His remarks underscore the band’s long-running commitment to innovation—a trait that has defined their career since the 1980s. Sepultura’s influence on the global metal scene began early. According to Atmostfear Entertainment, the band made a mark in the extreme metal world from their earliest days.

Their early demos and live tapes circulated internationally, helping to shape the emerging death and thrash metal genres. Their 1987 album Schizophrenia reached a wide audience and solidified their reputation as part of the rapidly growing global metal network.

The band’s most groundbreaking moment came with their embrace of Brazilian cultural influences. Remezcla noted that Roots expanded metal’s creative range by weaving in folklore and indigenous rhythms, showing that heavy music could merge with cultural identity. The album remains one of their most influential works, inspiring Latin American metal artists to incorporate traditional sounds into their music.

Its impact stretched well beyond Brazil, demonstrating that metal bands worldwide could embrace their heritage without sacrificing intensity. This fusion opened new creative pathways across continents.

Iggor Cavalera’s stance against musical stagnation continues that same spirit of experimentation. His critique of listeners who cling to older material mirrors the ethos that once led Sepultura to blend thrash metal with tribal percussion and chants. Today, through his various projects, Cavalera remains committed to innovation—the same drive that first put Sepultura on the global metal map and inspired countless artists to push their own creative limits.

He expressed his excitement in an Instagram post, celebrating the band’s return to the stage with Anika Nilles stepping in to honor the legacy of the late Neil Peart.

“Incredible!!! I am soooo happy for Geddy and Alex!! And so excited for all of us Rush fanatics around the world!” Portnoy wrote. “Congrats to Anika Nilles who I’m sure will be amazing…she’s awesome!”

Portnoy highlighted the tour’s significance as a tribute to the band’s history and their late bandmate. “This will be a beautiful way to pay tribute to Neil and to honor his and the bands legacy!” he continued. “I can’t wait to see this.”

The announcement marks a monumental moment for Rush fans worldwide, as the band prepares to embark on a new chapter in its storied career. Portnoy’s reaction mirrors the excitement shared by fans anticipating the group’s first performances together in over a decade.

According to Rush’s official website, the band will launch their 2026 reunion trek—the “Fifty Something” Tour—featuring returning members Geddy Lee on bass, keys, and vocals, and Alex Lifeson on guitar and vocals. The tour will begin on June 7, 2026, at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, followed by a second show two days later.

The run will include multiple shows across seven cities: Los Angeles, Mexico City, Texas, Illinois, New York, Ontario, and Ohio. Each night will feature two career-spanning sets, except for performances in Mexico City and the final show in Cleveland, Ohio. Tickets go on sale October 17, 2025, with presale options already available.

Geddy Lee shared that after more than a decade since their last show, he and Alex Lifeson missed playing Rush’s music. They decided to celebrate their 50+ years of musical history and honor Neil Peart’s irreplaceable legacy by returning to the road with Anika Nilles on drums, according to Loudwire.

As noted by Ultimate Classic Rock, this marks the first time in Rush’s history that someone other than Neil Peart will perform as the band’s drummer on a major tour. Nilles, a highly skilled and dynamic drummer, will take on this historic role to honor Peart’s memory while performing Rush’s extensive catalog. The tour stands as both a tribute to the band’s legendary past and the beginning of a new era.

The incident, which took place on Instagram, began when Malakian shared a post with the caption “Let’s Go Redskins,” referring to the former name of Washington’s NFL team.

One fan commented, “So disappointing you stand by the name knowing the history / meaning behind that slur.” Malakian replied dismissively to the criticism, saying, “I like disappointing people like you.”

When another user suggested he was “just trying to be a troll all the time now,” Malakian doubled down on his stance. “I’ve been a Redskins fan since I was 6yrs old,” he wrote. “I refuse to use the new name.”

The exchange has sparked debate among fans regarding the musician’s views on the controversial team name. The team officially dropped the “Redskins” name in 2020 due to its offensive implications toward Native Americans.

Malakian’s defense of the term comes years after the Washington NFL team retired it following decades of protests and public outcry. The organization officially ended use of the “Redskins” name in 2020 amid a wave of social justice activism and corporate pressure. It temporarily went by “Washington Football Team” before adopting the “Washington Commanders” name in 2022.

The term “Redskins” has long been recognized as a racial slur against Native Americans. Historically, it was used pejoratively by European settlers and later perpetuated through media and sports, reinforcing harmful stereotypes of Indigenous peoples.

Native American groups and advocacy organizations have consistently campaigned for the term’s removal from sports teams and mascots, citing its offensive connotations and the perpetuation of damaging cultural caricatures. The eventual name change was part of a broader movement in professional sports to address Indigenous stereotypes, prompting similar rebranding efforts across various leagues.

Malakian, known for exploring controversial subjects in his music, recently released an album with Scars on Broadway titled “Addicted to the Violence” in July 2025. According to AXS, the record confronts themes of youth violence and social alienation with unflinching candor. Still, his defense of the “Redskins” name has drawn criticism from fans who see it as inconsistent with broader social justice values.
