Ike Barinholtz recently joined The Kelly Clarkson Show for an interview, where he talked about his personal life and three daughters. When Clarkson asked the actor how his girls were doing, Barinholtz revealed that he was concerned about them — and his concern involved Sam Smith:
“The girls are great. They are getting bigger and bigger. Our new thing we’re kind of worried about is they’re singing songs. They’re sharing content, which is fine, but one is nine, and one is four. So, I have a four-year-old right now who’s running around the house singing ‘Unholy’ by Sam Smith.”
Clarkson said the song has great lyrics — but for an adult audience. Agreeing with her, Barinholtz continued, joking that ‘Daddy’ didn’t go to a body shop:
“Great lyrics for a club, I’m 46, and I find it okay to listen to them, but I have a four-year-old walking around the house, like, ‘Daddy got caught cause he’s popping it,’ and I’m like, ‘Daddy didn’t pop anything! He didn’t pop anything! He didn’t go to a body shop! Daddy made dinner! You’re not abandoned; I’m here!'”
The actor then asked for a kids-friendly version of ‘Unholy’ for his daughters to sing and revealed what the lyrics could be like:
“We need clean lyrics. We need the Kidz Bop version of it, like ‘Daddy got caught at the donut shop, bringing Donuts home because he loves us so much.'”
Married to Erica Hanson, Barinholtz has three daughters, Foster, age 10; Payton, age 7; and their youngest, age 5.
Released on September 22, 2022, ‘Unholy‘ is about a man who cheats on his wife at a strip club. Following its release, the song won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
