Actress Bridget Moynahan and NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady have a son named John Edward Thomas Moynahan, also known as ‘Jack,’ who was born on August 22, 2007. The news of Moynahan’s pregnancy came as a surprise, as it was announced a few months after she and Brady split.
Moynahan gave birth to Jack at St. John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica, California. Brady was not in the delivery room during Jack’s birth but was present in the hospital on the same day. As reported by People, the actress recalled that day as follows:
“Tom was not in the [delivery] room. He was there on that day and came in afterward. He certainly wasn’t holding my hand while I pushed.”
Still, Brady and Moynahan maintain an amicable co-parenting relationship. Both have remarried other partners, who they credit for supporting their co-parenting efforts and loving Jack as their own child.
Jack’s Relationship With Gisele Bündchen, His Stepmom
After the end of his relationship with Moynahan, Brady began dating Gisele Bündchen. Speaking to Howard Stern in 2020, Brady admitted that Moynahan’s pregnancy was a shock and a challenge for all parties:
“Next thing you know, I found out that Bridget was pregnant with our son. So that was a very unique time, and it challenged me in a lot of ways, again, to grow up in a different way. It was very hard for my wife to think she fell in love with this guy, and then now his ex-girlfriend’s pregnant. And it was very challenging for my son’s mom because she didn’t envision that either.”
However, Bündchen loved Jack as if he was her son. She has been a stepmother to Jack (although she doesn’t like the word ‘stepmom’) and has expressed positive sentiments about their relationship. She told Vanity Fair:
“Jack came into our lives, and I felt so blessed. It kind of awakened in me this desire of being a mom. I’ve always dreamed of being a mom, but I think that happened a little faster than I thought because now I have this beautiful little angel that I get to care for and love.”
Jack also has two younger half-siblings, Benjamin Rein Brady and Vivian Lake Brady, from Tom Brady’s marriage to Brazilian model and actress Gisele Bundchen.
Jack’s Interest In Sports And Football
Jack has a passion for becoming an athlete, specifically in American football, and is referred to by his father as his ‘good luck charm.‘ In 2019, Brady told Men’s Health that Jack was in many ways like his younger self:
“Jack loves sports. He wants to try hard, and he never wants to disappoint his dad. That was me. I’d wake up early on weekends to do stuff with my dad. That’s why I didn’t party a lot. If Dad wanted to golf, I wanted to be there with him. And if I ever missed those things, it would crush me.”
Bridget, on the other hand, spoke to Kelly Mark in 2017, revealing Jack initially wanted to be a professional soccer player:
“I think right now, he wants to be a professional soccer player. Though after the Olympics, he’s like, ‘I think I’m going to win a gold in swimming.’ Then it was Michael Phelps. So I think he just likes awards.”
John ‘Jack’ Edward plays American football for his high school team. He also takes his diet seriously — as their former personal chef Allen Campbell told Boston.com in 2016, the Brady family’s diet consists of 80% vegetables.
In 2020, Tom made a surprising decision and signed with a team other than the New England Patriots: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady’s decision to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was partially influenced by a desire to be closer to Jack, who once worked as a ball boy for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tom Brady And Jack’s Father-Son Relationship And The ‘Kissing’ Controversy
While having a chat with Howard Stern in 2020, Brady said he would be happy to see his sons playing football. However, he doesn’t want his kids to play football because they are Tom Brady’s children. Implying a desire to let them find their own paths, he said:
“I would never want for them to be Tom Brady’s son playing football. I don’t like that at all. But from a team, camaraderie, discipline, I think there’s something about contact sports that teaches you a lot about discipline, respect, mutual respect for your opponent that you don’t get in non-contact sports.”
As it seems, Tom and his son don’t always spend time having chats about sports. Back in October 2021, Brady recalled going with then-11-year-old Jack to a party with Snoop Dogg. Brady and John have a father-son relationship many would admire. However, in 2018, they found themselves at the center of controversy. In the 2018 docuseries ‘Tom vs. Time,’ there was a scene where Brady asked his son to kiss him longer on the lips, which resulted in controversy.
In recent years, Jack resembles his father, Tom Brady. This observation became particularly noticeable after Brady shared a family photo on Instagram in February.
