Rene Russo has been a famous actor since the 1990s. She began on TV with a show called ‘Sable’ but has mainly worked in movies. You might remember her from films like ‘Get Shorty’ and ‘Lethal Weapon.’ However, her career took a different turn in the mid-2000s, as she took a break from acting after ‘Yours, Mine & Ours.’

She returned to movies as Thor’s mom, Frigga, in the superhero movie ‘Thor’ in 2011. Russo played the same role in ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ In 2014, she was in the well-received crime thriller ‘Nightcrawler.’ When asked if positive reviews for her role in the show made her consider returning to the entertainment industry in a 2014 chat with the Los Angeles Times, the actress replied:

“I don’t allow myself to get too excited because this business can be really disappointing at times. And then I have to think about getting dressed up and going to the award shows. It just sounds awful. They’ve got to be so stressful. And not everyone is thinking you’re looking great.”

Recalling her appearance at the Academy Awards ceremony, Rene continued:

“I went to the Academy Awards one year to present, and you get all dressed up, and you’re insecure anyway. And the next day, Joan Rivers said something like, ‘Oh, my God, what is wrong with her? Her hair is hideous.’ And that, like, really hurt me, you know?”

Russo decided to take a break from acting for a few reasons. She wanted to spend more time with her daughter, who’s a model now. Plus, the actress admitted during the same interview that she didn’t really love acting and got tired of getting roles she didn’t like. She preferred being in her garden or doing something else.

Even though she had a successful acting career, Rene felt like she was always cast in similar roles as a strong, confident woman, which didn’t match her real-life experiences. So, she took a break to explore new things and eventually returned to acting in roles that interested her. Surprisingly, she also started a dairy company during her break.
