Morena Baccarin, who portrayed Vanessa Carlysle in Deadpool, recently shared some behind-the-scenes details about her time on set that might surprise some fans. According to the actor, her biggest resentment during the film’s production wasn’t the demanding action sequences but rather the intimate scenes she shared with co-star Ryan Reynolds, who played the title character.

In the 2016 blockbuster Deadpool, Baccarin and Reynolds’ characters share more than just clever banter and intense action scenes. A notable part of the movie includes a montage of the on-screen couple celebrating a calendar year’s worth of holidays in bed, each festivity marked by corresponding outfits and a good dose of risqué humor.

While audiences enjoyed this unique display of a superhero love story, Morena has revealed that filming these scenes was not as fun as it may have appeared on screen. In an interview with TV host Conan O’Brien back in 2017, she mentioned the two-day shoot for the saucier sequences, stating:

“It was really fun… minus the two days of sex scenes, it was wonderful, the whole experience.”

Baccarin went on to share that it took two full days to cover the celebratory sex scene, as the couple made ‘sweet love’ through an entire calendar year, each holiday marked by different outfits.

Surprisingly, the actress felt relief at the amount of footage that did not make it to the final cut of the film. She stated there was ‘a lot left on the cutting room floor’, indicating that the sequence was initially even more extensive. She commented:

“I literally mean that was enough sex. Like nobody needs to see more than what was in the movie!”

Interestingly, even the simple act of kissing Reynolds presented challenges. Baccarin explained her difficulty with the actor’s latex mask, which was used for Reynolds’ portrayal of Deadpool. Speaking to People magazine in 2018, she said:

“I keep saying that kissing him in that mask is like kissing a giant latex condom. It basically just smells like rubber the entire time.”

Yet, despite these difficulties, Baccarin was full of praise for Reynolds’ professionalism on set. In a 2015 interview with Collider, she recounted how they managed to maintain a light and friendly atmosphere during the uncomfortable scenes:

“There’s a lot of laughing. And that stuff is always uncomfortable, but we made the best of it.”

By the end of the day, the two actors were so comfortable with each other that the awkwardness seemed to fade. The actress admitted to getting used to the discomfort, explaining:

“By the end of the day, you’re like, ‘Okay, where do you want me? How do you-?’ You’re like spreading your legs, and you’re like whatever, it’s just, you get so used to each other.”

In 2016, Reynolds also recalled the filming process of the intimacy scenes, saying ‘it was a year’s worth of sex in one day.’
