Rob Lowe recently sat down with Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where he recalled going to a Rolling Stones concert. As the actor admitted, he had to turn down Keith Richards’ invitation backstage:
“I was newly sober, and I was backstage at a Rolling Stones concert. Keith Richards said, ‘Don’t you come back to the hotel and party with me later?’ and I was like, ‘Okay, I’m either going to party with Keith Richards and not be sober, or I’m going to turn down Keith Richards to party with? I’m 20, or whatever it is! I remember I didn’t do it.”
Lowe struggled with alcohol issues back when he was a teenager due to his hard-partying lifestyle. After undergoing a rehabilitation program, he announced his sobriety on May 10, 1990, when he was 26 years old. In a 2020 Instagram post, Lowe celebrated his 30th year of sobriety.
While the exact Stones show the actor attended is unknown, it was possibly the band’s Steel Wheels concert at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, as Lowe was spotted there as a VIP guest on October 18, 1989.
In 2020, Richards also announced he spent two years off drinking.
