When asked about the artists he is most eager to collaborate with, the guitarist replied by saying:

“Well, definitely Taylor Swift, Adele, Beyoncé, Metallica, AC/DC, U2. Of course, Eric Clapton. So, I’d like to enter into the music of youngsters. Whether it’s rap, like Jay-Z. I wanna stay relevant. I don’t wanna be a ghost in a jukebox.”

Santana has a history of collaborating with diverse artists, including Shakira, Chad Kroeger, Everlast, and Lauryn Hill, so his willingness to work with artists from different genres might not be unexpected for many.

It is also known that the musician is a fan of both Metallica and AC/DC, as he revealed before on several occasions. Santana also worked with the Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett on the albums ‘Shaman’ and ‘Blessings and Miracles.’ Sharing his opinions on collaborating with Hammett and Metallica, he said in a conversation with Guitar World in 2021:

“Yeah, this is our second time – we did another song on ‘Shaman,’ with Kirk Hammett and a slide player, Robert Randolph. So, it’s always great. Kirk Hammett and I are brothers; we go back. Who isn’t a Metallica fan, you know? I love Metallica, I love AC/DC, Led Zeppelin. And Peter Green when he did [the songs], The Green Manalishi, and Oh Well, and all that, that’s the first heavy metal, you know?”

The rocker already had a chance to join forces with Clapton a few times. The two guitarists worked together on Santana’s 1999 album, ‘Supernatural.’ Carlos also appeared in Clapton’s 1996 live album ‘Crossroads 2: Live in the Seventies’ and the Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2004.

You can watch his interview here.
