Blur’s Damon Albarn recently chatted with the Sun and explained why he was against AI usage in the music industry.

The frontman made it clear how he had no love for AI-featured songs when the host asked his take on Blur’s AI-covered tracks, featuring Michael Buble and Snoop Dogg:

“It’s [the covers are] absurd. Anyone who has so much time to sing songs through a Michael Buble filter and put them on the internet is a f*cking idiot. If the AIs are the future of music, we’re gonna need better drugs to get us through it.”

Well, although it’s obvious that Albarn had no tolerance for AI usage and its possible future in the music industry, the Beatles icon Paul McCartney is certainly taking a gentler approach to the whole thing. The bassist even discussed how he had quite recently used an AI bot to bring back John Lennon’s parts from an exclusive Beatles track.

Still, some were concerned that using an AI bot might hurt Beatles and John’s legacy, though the late singer’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, was quick to dismiss the worries, as he explained why fans would love the band’s upcoming new songs featuring AI.

McCartney’s also not the only artist with rather optimistic feelings regarding AI, as Grimes had also recently announced that she was willing to share 50% of royalty with any artist who was willing to use her voice through AI in any creative activity related to music.

In a recent chat with Broken Records, Damon Albarn of Blur stated that his daughter is calling him a boomer. During the podcast, while discussing Blur’s latest song, ‘The Narcissist’ and calling the latest era a ‘narcissistic age of epoch,’ he was asked if he ever talks about these with his daughter. Albarn, addressing the age that she’s at now, replied:

“She thinks, understandably, that – I mean, she’s called me a boomer on a couple of occasions which I’m sure is not a good thing.”

When asked if he’s a ‘boomer,’ he replied:

“I don’t think so.”

He was also asked if he’s a Gen X, to which he responded with:

“I really have no idea what I am, but boomer is surely before me. I can’t be a boomer. She’s been doubly rude by calling me a boomer. I think it’s intentionally- I mean, I deserve it, so it’s fine.”

A few tweets have been shared for his so-called ‘outrage’. One of the followers of the unofficial Damon Albarn page replied:

“Gen X are the first people who had their lives messed up by boomers, it’s like the most offensive thing you can say to us.”

The mentioned song ‘The Narcissist’ was released on May 18, and the new album ‘The Ballad Of Darren’ is set to be released on July 21.

In a recent interview with Apple Music, Damon Albarn, the lead singer of Blur, discussed the band’s latest release, ‘St. Charles Square’. Albarn spoke openly about his efforts to reunite the band, admitting that he let his guard down in the process. He said the following:

“When I kind of finished the demos, and I felt I’ve got something I’m excited about, I got everyone into a studio in January this year, and I just sort of sat them down, and I said, ‘Right. This is what I’ve got. You choose what you want to use from it, and we move forward from that.'”

Albarn then revealed not wanting to have anyone but one person in the studio:

“But I mean, at the beginning, I really didn’t want anyone in the studio but Graham to start off with, but the other two kind of day one said, ‘No. We want to stay here if that’s all right.’ And they did. And do you know what? It was the best thing, really. It was the best thing.”

The frontman had a reason for wanting to work on his own rather than having others around. He explained:

“It was just, I suppose, me just trying to get my head round kind of working with more people at once in a studio because, I mean, a lot of the time, I just do it on my own, really. The reward of everyone playing together is one I do acknowledge as being maybe the greatest. You got to keep it real.”

He then topped it off by admiring the band:

“I’ve been playing with them since I was a kid. So to sort of be able to chart that ridiculous journey from being teenagers to being five years off 60 is quite… It’s a little bit odd but wonderful at the same time. It’s wonderful.”

After eight years of silence, Blur is getting ready to play their first big show on July 8 in London’s Wembley Stadium. The band spoke about coming back together last year in November. The frontman said:

“I’m really looking forward to playing with my Blur brothers again and revisiting all those great songs. Blur live shows are always amazing for me. A nice guitar and an amp turned right up and loads of smiling faces.”

In the same interview, the drummer Dave Rowntree similarly talked about his excitement about coming back after the ‘chaos of the last few years’.
