Disturbed frontman David Draiman shared a powerful message of unity during the band’s induction into the Illinois Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The remarks, reported on X (formerly Twitter), focused on what Draiman described as a troubling trend among musicians. In his speech, he criticized those who use their platforms to divide rather than bring people together.

“I do want to leave with one thing. Music is one of the most pure and one of the most powerful, most binding and uniting elements in this world. And we are living in a time where we need that unity more than ever,” Draiman said.

The vocalist then called out artists he believes misuse their influence.

“I think there are far too many people who are abusing the privilege that they’ve been given and who are abusing their position on stage. And instead of bringing people together, they are driving people apart. And it needs to stop. And it needs to stop now,” he continued.

Emphasizing music’s unique ability to overcome divisions, Draiman highlighted its role in connecting people across backgrounds.

“Too many people benefits from division. Too many people benefit from sowing hatred. Music brings people together from all walks of life, all colors of skin, whether you believe or you don’t believe, however you identify, none of that matters because when you all are singing the same words to the same song that means as much to you as to the person next to you. All the noise of the outside world doesn’t matter anymore,” he stated.

He closed by reaffirming Disturbed’s mission and dedication to their fans.

“Disturbed since day one has been all about overcoming adversity, about empowerment, about giving you the fuel that you need to get past the difficult moments in life, to feel stronger than you did when you came in the room to begin with. And we will keep doing that as long as you’ll have us,” Draiman said.

The message came as the band celebrated another major career milestone. From modest beginnings to becoming one of rock’s most influential acts, their induction at the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, Illinois, on September 14 marked a significant achievement. Guitarist Dan Donegan reflected on their early days playing in Chicago bars, thanking longtime supporter Frank Mastalerz, who has championed local original bands for over three decades, Blabbermouth reported.

The ceremony paid tribute to the band’s rise from grassroots venues to international recognition. Rockin Town highlighted how the event underscored their growth while honoring their Illinois roots and impact on the local music community.

Draiman has long used his platform to speak on pressing social issues beyond the band’s accolades. YouTube has documented his openness about struggles with mental health, including emotional speeches on suicide prevention. Disturbed’s David Draiman recently shared his thoughts on being excluded from Billboard’s ‘The 50 Greatest  Rock Lead Singers Of All Time’ list. The frontman took to Twitter and wrote that many fans have reached out to him about the situation. Draimen wrote the following:

“A lot of you have reached out to me about getting no love from Billboard on their top 50 frontmen list. That’s ok. I’ll still be out here. Doing what I do… at the highest level I can possibly do it… with, or without the recognition.”

The list consists of names such as Dave Grohl, Stevie Nicks, Freddie Mercury, and Hayley Williams, with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones topping the list.

Draiman placed 42nd on Hit Parader’s ‘Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time‘ list in 2006 and 8th on Revolver’s ‘10 Best Nu-Metal Vocalists of All Time‘ in 2021.
