As recently reported by Business Insider, Eric Clapton’s efforts to fund Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s 2024 presidential campaign faced rejection by the Federal Election Commission.

The guitarist reportedly attempted to donate $5,000 to the presidential candidate’s campaign. However, two issues caused his wish to be disapproved. Firstly, Clapton exceeded the legal contribution limit, which stands at $3,300 for individuals.

Secondly, he provided an address in England, which is not allowed as federal campaign finance regulations prohibit donations from foreign nationals. Consequently, Kennedy’s campaign had to refund the donation to the Federal Election Commission.

Considering their shared skeptical views on vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic, it shouldn’t come as a surprise why Clapton decided to support Kennedy. As you are probably aware, the guitarist was vocal about his opposition to vaccines and lockdown measures.

After experiencing health issues following his AstraZeneca vaccination, he expressed the opinion that vaccination should not be mandatory. Moreover, the musician took a stance against performing at venues that implemented vaccination proof requirements.

RFK Jr. also held an anti-vaccine stance during the pandemic by comparing vaccine mandates to the persecution faced during World War II under the Nazis. After receiving backlash, he eventually issued a partial apology for his statement.

The Blues Brothers’ Dan Aykroyd sat down with AXTV’s Dan Rather for an interview, where he revealed his thoughts on Eric Clapton making a profit out of black music.

During the conversation, Rather reminded Aykroyd that the Blues Brothers were criticized for being a band of two white artists taking black music and making money from it. In his response, Aykroyd gave Clapton as an example and said he understands why people try to preserve their culture:

“Well, I have two words to say: Eric Clapton. I mean, if Eric Clapton can do it and come off, revere the music, pay tribute to the music, and make it successful, I think it’s okay for us to step in there. I don’t think it’s a valid point — the blues is for everyone; there are so many great blues artists who aren’t African-American. Fair enough, for people to protect the culture against cultural appropriation, but see, we did it in such a spirit of reverence and love for those performers.”

After that, Aykroyd revealed their record company actually suggested them buy the royalties of all of the songs they used for a small amount of money:

“And the other thing we did was, well, Atlantic Records said, ‘You’re doing all these cover songs, just offer the writers a percentage. You can get these; you can own all these songs yourself! Just give them 10 grand!’ We didn’t. All the people that wrote songs for us, we said, ‘Nope, we’re going to keep performance royalties only, [and] the original songwriters; they keep their royalties. We ain’t making no special deal.'”

According to the comedian, all of the blues artists they covered got their publishing rights in the end:

“Eddie Floyd gets his money, and Donnie Walsh gets his money. All the people who wrote the songs in the show got their full publishing because we love these artists. We love them, and we respected them.”

Aykroyd founded the Blues Brothers in 1978 with the comedian John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ Following the release of their debut album ‘Briefcase Full of Blues,’ they rose to fame after the 1980 comedy film ‘The Blues Brothers.‘

Back in 1976, Clapton received a backlash after his racist remarks on stage. However, he later defended himself by saying he was not a racist as he had black friends and he was making black music.

Eric Clapton recently took to Twitter to officially announce his limited UK and Ireland tour for 2024. The tour news excited the fans, although some have expressed disappointment regarding its brevity and the absence of certain locations.

Here are the dates:

“Thursday, May 9 – Newcastle, Utilita Arena

Saturday, May 11 – Liverpool, M&S Bank Arena

Monday, May 13 – Birmingham, Resorts World Arena

Thursday, May 16 – Dublin, 3Arena

Monday & Tuesday, May 20 & 21 – London Royal Albert Hall.”

A follow-up tweet said:

“Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 9 at 10 am local.”

So, the highly anticipated tour is scheduled for May 2024 and will include six shows in various cities across the United Kingdom and Ireland. However, some fans were still dissatisfied with certain aspects of the tour. One of them questioned the absence of Scotland on the tour schedule, stating:

“Why no date for Scotland? Are we not still in the UK?”

Another fan wrote:

“Looks like Eric’s never going to come and see us in Northern Ireland.”

One of them also expressed concerns about the pricing of tickets, writing:

“Wow. I want to see a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I can’t go because it’s expensive.”

In March, the guitarist also announced five North American shows to take place in September in the cities of Pittsburgh, Toronto, St. Louis, St. Paul, and Denver. Clapton will also perform at Crossroads Guitar Festival on September 23 and 24 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
