Following The Winchesters‘ cancellation by the CW, the show’s executive producer Jensen Ackles took to his Twitter to comment on the series’ ending and thanked fans who rallied to try and save the show.

Ackles’ tweet read:

“To all of you who watched, followed, and supported this story, thank you. And to all those who brought this show to life… I couldn’t be more proud of what we all did together. But as they say… timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike… welp… that’s some unfortunate timing. Sleep well, dear ‘The Winchesters’… until we meet again somewhere down the road.”

‘The Winchesters’ has officially ended as no new network home could be found for the series. The show was canceled by CW in May, and the producing studio, Warner Bros. Television, was unsuccessful in setting up the Supernatural prequel on another network or streaming platform.

Following the news, there was a strong #SaveTheWinchesters campaign led by Ackles. Despite having potential ties to major streaming platforms, such as Max, Netflix, and Amazon Studios, none of them decided to pick up the show. The ongoing writers’ strike also likely hindered the producers’ efforts to find a new home for the series.

Starring Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger, ‘The Winchesters‘ centered on the parents of Dean and Sam Winchester – John and Mary, and was narrated from Dean Winchester’s perspective. Jensen voiced Dean in the series, and with his brother Danneel, he executive produced the show via their banner Chaos Machine Productions.
