In November 2022, Takeoff lost his life during a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling, which he attended with his Migos bandmate and uncle, Quavo. Following his death, the Harris County coroner’s office released a statement to Billboard, revealing the cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

Migos’ label, Quality Control Music, shared a statement about this on Instagram by writing:

“It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff. Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world, and we are devastated.”

After the incident, the person responsible left the scene, leading the city’s police department to start an investigation. By the end of November, they arrested two suspects, Patrick Xavier Clark and Cameron Josh. In May 2023, a grand jury charged the former with the rapper’s murder.

Meanwhile, Takeoff’s family started legal action for his inheritance as he passed away without leaving a will behind. According to Georgia law, the late rapper’s closest relatives were supposed to take over his $26 million fortune and music catalog. But news reported that his parents, Titania Davenport-Treet and Kenneth M. Ball, started a fight over the control of this wealth.

While the dispute between the two parties went on, the state law stated that the parent who was closer to the late singer would get the inheritance. Ace Showbiz wrote that sources close to the family claimed Ball didn’t play a big part in Takeoff’s life. The rapper himself also mentioned being raised by his mother in his music and interviews before his death.
