Ritu Arya is known for her roles in ‘Doctors,’ ‘Humans,’ ‘The Umbrella Academy,’ and more recently in the ‘Barbie’ movie. Still, a lesser-known fact about the actress is that she also has a passion for drumming since she started playing at 16. Arya was even part of the band KIN until she left in October 2022.

With his band, Ritu released several singles, including ‘Sharing Light,’ ‘L.O.V.E.,’ and ‘The Runaways’ in 2020 and 2021. During an interview she joined with A Book Of Magazine in December 2021 while she was still a member of KIN, the actress shared her feelings about being in a band, explaining:

“There’s something very grounding and comforting about playing an instrument. It’s lovely being part of a team with Grace [Strickland de Souza] and Adam [Collier]. It just feels like we’re pals hanging out.”

When asked how she blended music and acting together, Arya said:

“When I’m away filming, I write remotely in my free time. We send each other ideas, and I go into a studio or use my electric kit. When I’ve been too busy, they’ve performed with a substitute drummer. We kind of make it work, and they’re so understanding and supportive. I feel very lucky.”

There is no need to look far to spot Ritu on the drums. In episode seven of the latest third season of ‘The Umbrella Academy,’ there’s a flashback scene where Arya’s character, Lila, is clearly moved and using her drumming to battle her memories.

For her current projects, the actress will continue to star as Lila in ‘The Umbrella Academy’ in the fourth and final season of the superhero series. While the filming wrapped at the end of May 2023, the release date of season 4 is unclear due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
