Journey’s Neal Schon recently voiced his lack of enthusiasm for U2’s concert at the Las Vegas Sphere.

Following a tweet by Las Vegas Review-Journal’s columnist John Katsilometes, which featured a video clip of U2’s Sphere performance, Schon responded:

“Nah… I’m not feeling or seeing it.”

While many were in awe of the Sphere’s visual and audio capabilities, with some expressing strong admiration, Schon seemed to appear less enthusiastic.

U2 commenced their residency titled ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere‘ on September 29. This series of concerts, scheduled to run until December 16, celebrates the band’s 1991 album ‘Achtung Baby.’ The show is being held at the Sphere at the Venetian Resort in Paradise, Nevada.

One notable change for U2 during the shows is the absence of their long-time drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who is currently recovering from surgery. This marks the first time since 1978 that the band is performing without him. In his place, Bram van den Berg from Krezip has stepped in.

These concerts were initially rumored in July 2022 and were later confirmed in a Super Bowl LVII advertisement in February 2023. By April and May, tickets were available for purchase. U2 also marked the occasion by releasing a Las Vegas-themed single titled ‘Atomic City.‘

Tina Weymouth recently discussed how U2 blasted their own chances to make a better doc than the Talking Heads’ 1984 concert film, ‘Stop Making Sense,’ while speaking with AP News.

The 1984 doc only recently saw a re-release at the Toronto International Film Festival and will see a global release in theaters on September 29.

So, as the Talking Heads members reunited to celebrate the film, Weymouth discussed how U2 had tried to make a ‘better’ production than ‘Stop Making Sense’:

“U2 wanted to make a film that was better than ‘Stop Making Sense’ and then they went and ruined it by doing all those interviews. The art should be separate from the personalities. So you don’t get all the dysfunction.”

Then, the former bassist shared how the band still had chemistry, even with all the complexities that took place since their break up in 1991:

“This is going to sound really ridiculous but I think about the fusion of the sun. It implodes and explodes. And I think that push and pull was so magical to our creative forces, the way that we worked together, the way we were supportive of each other. It was very special and none of us has found it again. If we sat down and played music, we’d be connecting again.”

Other than helping the Talking Heads reunite, the documentary is also a critic and audience favorite and has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s also celebrated by national institutions, as the Library of Congress picked the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, calling it, ‘historically, culturally, and aesthetically of significance.’

The 1975’s Matt Healy has been going through a rough patch in the public eye. However, some musicians seem to have his back, including U2’s Bono. Here’s what Matt shared with the crowd during a performance in Dublin, he said:

“Honestly, this is not a name-drop; this is a celebration of them as people. Chris Martin and Bono have sent us the most beautiful messages, packages, kind of good wishes, in honestly such a genuine way, and it made us feel so beautiful.”

The singer was already under the limelight with his recent breakup with Taylor Swift, so Oasis’ Noel Gallagher’s recent words were another pill to swallow. However, Healy decided to make fun of the situation and shared with the crowd:

“We asked Liam [Gallagher] to open up, and he said he would have done it, but he was busy. The difference between me and Noel is that I do a series of interviews to promote an album, whereas he does an album to promote a series of interviews. But we love you, Noel; get Oasis back together!”

Noel recently had a chat with NME; he called 1975 a ‘shit’ band and claimed they shouldn’t be considered a rock band and receive a Brit for best rock/alternative act. He said:

“I was watching it with my kids, two teenage lads, thinking, ‘Is it me being a grumpy old man, or is this shit?’ They were both going, ‘Oh no, this is f*cking shit.‘ The 1975 Best Rock Band? Someone needs to redefine that immediately because that is, I don’t know what that is, but it’s certainly not f*cking rock. Whatever rock is, that’s not it.”
