Zoë M. Federoff, former keyboardist for Cradle of Filth, has announced that she is returning to teaching voice lessons after her exit from the symphonic black metal group, according to a statement shared on Instagram.

Her decision follows a turbulent period in which both she and her husband, guitarist Marek “Ashok” Šmerda, parted ways with the band after conflicts with frontman Dani Filth. Federoff is now refocusing on her career as a vocal instructor.

“It’s been several years since I taught voice lessons, and I’m excited to say I’m now ready to resume teaching,” Federoff said. “My schedule can accommodate 5 new students, either for online or in-person lessons (assuming you’re local to Tucson).”

She explained that her vocal instruction covers a wide range of technical skills.

“PM me if you want to improve your ear and pitch, breath control, articulation, and overall vocal health,” she continued. “Additionally, if you’re a live vocalist, feel free to ask me about microphones, mic technique, and live vocal performance. All ages and ability levels are welcome- I’ve got lots of experience teaching young people as well, so if your kiddo needs an accessible voice curriculum, I’d especially love to help them start their vocal journey.”

The couple’s departure from Cradle of Filth was accompanied by public disputes and disagreements that spread across social media and music press outlets.

According to Blabbermouth, Federoff left mid-tour citing personal reasons. Days later, Ashok was dismissed following his outspoken criticism of the band’s working conditions. He had openly raised concerns about low pay, high stress, and what he saw as neglect toward band members.

The situation escalated further when Ashok condemned the band’s long-delayed collaboration with Ed Sheeran. Metal Insider reported that he dismissed the project as “foolish clown antics” and confirmed he had requested his compositions be excluded from upcoming releases, including that track. “I will be leaving Cradle of Filth at the end of this tour due to unprofessional behavior, low pay, and high stress,” Ashok declared in a public statement, as noted by Louder Sound.

The pair, who got engaged in 2024 and married in January 2025, both cited unprofessional conduct and contractual issues as core reasons for their departure. Their exit marks another major lineup change for Cradle of Filth, a band long known for its evolving roster.

Now, Federoff is stepping into a new chapter, shifting from the intensity of global metal touring to the personal and community-focused work of vocal instruction in Tucson, Arizona.
