In 2019-2020, Pete Davidson and Kaia Gerber’s relationship went under the spotlight due to their age difference, with Davidson being 26 and Gerber 18.

The two made the headlines after being seen together at Sadelle’s in New York City in October 2019. While the media continued to capture their dates, a source shared with People magazine that they seemed ‘normal and happy.’

Still, criticism continued to come the comedian’s way, as he addressed them during an episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ by saying:

“It’s not fair, Colin [Jost]. You get to date a famous woman, and everyone’s delighted, but when I do it, the world wants to punch me in the throat. What’d I do?”

Later in that episode, Davidson mentioned considering rehab for his borderline personality disorder, which he had previously sought treatment for in 2016. He later revealed this as one factor leading to his breakup with Gerber in early 2020.

The ‘SNL’ cast member told Charlamagne Tha God:

“It’s just like she should be having fun. She shouldn’t have to worry about some dude that just has issues and s**t. She should be enjoying her work. It just wasn’t the right place or the right time at all.”

Around that time, Page Six reported that the relationship became ‘very overwhelming’ for Gerber, as a source shared that Davidson was ‘very intense to his girlfriends.’ The comedian supported that claim during his interview by saying:

“I cry a lot. I get into deep conversations. I care about your s**t. I like to meet your family. I like to know who you are. And some families are like, ‘Who the f**k are you?’ So I’m a lot for certain people. It was just how I was raised.”

Pete Davidson entered the public eye in the following years with his relationships with Kim Kardashian and then Chase Sui Wonders. Meanwhile, Kaia Gerber started dating actor Austin Butler in 2021.
