Machine Gun Kelly took to X to discuss the fading criticism directed at Green Day and Blink-182 in response to a tweet praising his 2020 album, ‘Tickets to My Downfall.’

A user wrote, sharing a picture of Kelly’s album cover:

“We don’t talk enough about how Machine Gun Kelly took over 2020 with this.”

The rocker replied, making a connection with his record and the diminishing hatred against Green Day and Blink-182:

“When our generation matures out of their insecurities, it will happen. It reminds me of when I was growing up, and the scene hated on Blink and Green Day because their success was so big, but now that crowd grew up and can just enjoy the music and how special that era was.”

In the comments section, some fans agreed with Kelly’s stance and appreciated his efforts. One of them wrote:

“One day, you will get your flowers for more than just this album but all the beautiful music you have created that people slept on. You are talented beyond measure, and I can’t wait for the day that society acknowledges that.”

However, there were also users who disagreed with what the musician meant in his words. One comment explained:

“But they were actually good; you are not.”

Blink-182 and Green Day have been subject to frequent comparisons because they became popular around the same period during the early 2000s. The Pop Disaster Tour in 2002 also saw the two bands as co-headliners in a joint concert tour. Over the course of two months, they traveled across the United States and Canada, performing primarily in outdoor amphitheaters.

Kelly is also a close friend of the Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who produced his ‘Tickets to My Downfall’ and ‘Mainstream Sellout.’ Barker also contributed to the drum parts in some of the songs while also being involved in the songwriting process.

Rolling Stone revealed new details about the shooting that took place in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday. According to a recent article, the gunman left behind a list of targets, including artists like Machine Gun Kelly and Eminem.

The police identified a 21-year-old white man called Ryan Christopher Palmeter as the suspect in the attack that killed three black people: Angela Carr, Jerrald Gaillon, and A.J. Laguerre Jr.

According to Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, Palmeter died by suicide shortly after the killings and left behind a racist manifesto. Although the police didn’t reveal the full writing, Rolling Stone reportedly reviewed its content, which referred to the attacker’s hopes ‘for a race war.’

The Rolling Stone article noted that the shooter’s manifesto included anti-Black slurs directed at Machine Gun Kelly and Eminem. It specifically described the latter’s work as ‘gay’ and ‘liberal.’

The writing also expressed admiration for mass killers like Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City bomber. So, Sheriff Waters talked about it during a press conference on Monday by saying:

“He just didn’t like government. He didn’t like the left or right if that’s what we’re talking about. He didn’t like anything.”

He also announced that the full letter would be released after an FBI review in the upcoming weeks.
