The YouTube show’s hosts questioned Sebastian about his early musical influences and asked about the musicians he listened to when he was younger. So, the singer answered:

“That’s probably how he got here because I know with heavy music, it started with Disturbed. The first time I heard heavy metal was ‘Down with the Sickness,’ and I thought it was, like, the most twisted, messed-up thing I’ve ever heard, and I loved it. Then, I got into my rap phase. I got into Eminem and 50 Cent and stuff. I even had a small EDM phase as a teenager.”

On how these artists affected his music, he explained:

“So, I just really kind of grew up absorbing all my favorite parts of these different genres and these different worlds of music. When I got to the point I was writing my own music, I was always trying to find new ways to blend them all together tastefully. Because a lot of bands have always tried to mix pop with metal or electronic music with metal, and sometimes, it comes out cheesy or forced.”

The singer went on to reveal what set Bad Omens’ sound apart from some other bands:

“With us, we always try to make it feel tasteful and kind of natural, and easy to digest. I feel like with ‘The Death of Peace of Mind,’ we finally did that in a way that people understand what we’re going for.”

Bad Omens released ‘The Death of Peace of Mind’ as their latest record in 2022. The band introduced an acapella version of the album a year later to celebrate its first anniversary.

Now, they are working on a deluxe record as well as a follow-up album called ‘Concrete Forever,’ which Noah Sebastian revealed in an interview with the Artist Friendly podcast by saying:

“In a way, we’re working on two records at once. […] It’s important to me not to rush anything. That’s always a priority, even if it takes me a year or three years. I’m gonna make the best album first.”

One such comparison that has been drawn is between Bad Omens and Bring Me the Horizon. This comparison is due to Noah Sebastian’s scratchy, mid-to-high-pitch screaming style, which resembles Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oliver Sykes’ voice on their 2013 album, ‘Sempiternal.’

Bad Omens released their self-titled debut full-length album in 2016, receiving high praise from fans. However, this positive response was somewhat overshadowed by the persistent comparisons of their songs to Bring Me the Horizon’s ‘Sempiternal.’ Notably, one of the more striking instances of similarity can be found in Bad Omens’ track ‘Reprise (The Sound of the End),’ which shares instrumental and vocal structures with BMTH’s ‘Shadow Moses.’

Sebastian acknowledged the comparisons in a 2017 interview with New Noise Magazine, explaining his voice’s role in that, and said:

“I think my voice is a lot to blame, and that doesn’t offend me at all. I think my stance on it is that we share—I don’t know them personally, but I can tell through their content and taste that we share a lot of similar interests and influences.”

The singer then reflected on his admiration for BMTH’s branding of their band:

“From a marketing standpoint, they’ve branded their band in the same way I’ve always wanted to brand a band. It’s very cinematic and grand; it’s very rich and regal. That’s something I’ve always wanted to do because I love big spaces, electronic and atmospheric sounds. One of my favorite bands in the world is Deftones. Oh, and [frontman] Chino [Moreno] ‘s other band, Crosses; they almost beat Deftones for me.”

He lastly added, turning back to the comparisons:

“Again, with the comparison, my voice is to blame for it. I love Linkin Park, and I’ve always wanted to channel that really raw-pitched, screamy singing sound.”

Interestingly, these two bands prepare to share the same stage. In June 2023, it was announced that Bad Omens would support Bring Me the Horizon on their tour in January 2024. This collaboration presents an opportunity for fans to witness both bands’ styles and compare them. BMTH will be promoting their seventh album, ‘Post Human: Nex Gen,’ set to release on September 15, before embarking on their UK and Ireland tour with Bad Omens.
