In a recent interview with Classic Rock, Rod Stewart mentioned that Jeff Beck faced challenges as the leader, although they stayed close until Beck passed away.

The singer said the following about the late guitarist:

“Jeff was a great guy, but he wasn’t a great bandleader. I mean, you have to look after your band. I remember when me and Ronnie [Wood, who played bass in the Jeff Beck Group] were staying in New York, and we never got a per diem; we just got our money every week, and sometimes that money would be very late in coming.”

He detailed their financial difficulties at the time:

“Not necessarily Jeff’s fault, but his manager. I think it was Peter Grant. So me and Woody would go up the corner from the Gorham Hotel where all the bands used to stay, and we’d go into shops and nick eggs – steal them. Sometimes Jimi Hendrix’s girlfriend would go and buy us breakfast because we had no money.”

Stewart also talked about Beck’s lack of ability to lead a band, especially in terms of handling finances while on tour, in his 2013 autobiography, ‘Rod: The Autobiography.’ He explained:

“I never felt he was going to put an arm around someone and check that they were all right. Sometimes, he would hop in his limo and leave me and Woody to call a taxi. He was in his own world.”

During a July chat with USA TODAY while discussing his relationship with the late guitarist, the rocker admitted that they weren’t super close as friends, and he thinks this might be because Beck had some personal problems or challenges that made him appear distant or not very open.

Beck and Stewart were members of the same band for approximately two years during the late 1960s. During this time, they achieved two Top 20 albums and went on several tours as part of the Jeff Beck Group.

Rod Stewart revealed his secret and the strict rules he follows to protect his voice. The rocker appeared on Forbes to talk about his recently released whisky, ‘Woflie’s Whisky,’ explaining the creation process and talking rock n’ roll. Stewart was asked if he could drink while touring, to which he declined and explained why:

“I can’t [drink] whisky martinis before [a show]. Alcohol is not great for the voice, as are a lot of things.”

He then shared the rules he has been following to maintain a good voice:

“When I’m on tour, I can’t speak during the day because it’s called voice rest. It works wonders at keeping your voice 100 percent. I like a couple glasses of wine afterwards. Usually, I’ll drink the whisky on a night off. I don’t speak during the day, but when I go out for dinner, I can talk. That ten hours rest during the day really helps. Pass it on to young vocalists, will you?”

The rocker also shared that some people know he can’t talk to rest his voice, so he passes them notes or puts them on his phone instead of speaking.

Stewart once wholly lost his voice and had to learn how to sing again after overcoming thyroid cancer. Apparently, it wasn’t a battle that took months, and the tumor was really easy to get rid of, but it led to losing his voice completely. It took six months for the rocker to gain his voice back and get on stage, which he referred to as scary and shocking.

This June, the rocker made it clear that he wants to leave rock music to move on to a different direction after completing his 2023 tour. Stewart told BBC:

“I am actually stopping. I’m not retiring, but I want to move on to… I had great success with The Great American Songbook, all-American standards, and I’ve just done a swing album with Jools Holland, which is going to come out next year, so I want to go in that direction. I just want to leave all the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind — for a while, maybe.”

Rod Stewart recently shared his secret to ordering without feeling ’embarrassed’ at French restaurants while chatting with Daily Mail.

The 78-year-old rocker was going through his daily routine and favorite drinks when the topic came to his favorite wines. He then revealed how his favorite wine was a 1948 Château d’Yquem and also gave a quick tip on how to order at French restaurants as a bonus.

Stewart explained how the best way was to let the ‘sommeliers’ think they had ‘control’ over you, saying:

“It can be intimidating going to a French restaurant with lots of wine on the menu, so it’s best to be honest. Tell them you’d like to drink a nice wine and put a price on it. Say these words: ‘Sir, I’m in your hands. Don’t spend more than 80 quid.’ The sommeliers love that because they feel like they are in control, and they want to impress you.”

Sir Rod had recently made headlines with his decision to switch genres and not retire, as the singer declared he was only retiring from ‘rock.’ The previous speculations about his ‘retirement,’ however, had come after rumors regarding the well-being of his fitness and health.

However, it seems that the singer is doing alright, even giving off tips on how to order wine at French restaurants, and he also didn’t shy away from revealing what his daily routine was and which drinks he preferred to stay healthy well into his 80s.

Britt Ekland, a.k.a the 1974 Bond girl, sat down with The Sydney Morning Herald to discuss her life in the spotlight. The actress, who is Rod Stewart’s ex-girlfriend, also shared her thoughts about their past relationship and the singer’s now. Britt explained:

“I don’t ever think about him now.”

Even though Britt has moved on from Rod, she had told the Daily Mail in 2020 that the singer had not only made her pay rent while they were living together, but he also liked to wear her ‘knickers.’ The actress said:

“He did use to like to wear my underwear, though. He would wear these baggy satin trousers and needed little satin pants. Rod would wear my knickers. He liked them.”

After Ekland ended it with Stewart in 1977, the actress revealed to The Sydney Morning Herald that she went through a ‘wild’ couple of years. She expressed:

“In the late ’70s, for, let’s say, two years, I was quite self-indulgent and had a lot of fun. But I’ve never written about it. Because it’s quite saucy.”

She added:

“I was in LA, London, Paris, making TV and movies, doing personal appearances. And I behaved as a man. I’d point at someone in a nightclub and say, ‘Get me him!'”
