A few years back, as HBO started reviving old shows such as ‘Gossip Girl,’ rumors about bringing ‘Six Feet Under’ back spread around. The TV network’s CEO, Casey Bloys, gave insights into these speculations in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter around that time.

The chat touched on the success of rebooted series like ‘And Just Like That.’ So, the interviewer wanted to hear about Bloys’ plans for ‘Six Feet Under’ and ‘True Blood’ in the middle of this revival movement. Referring to HBO’s content strategy back then, the CEO said:

“Believe it or not, I don’t spend my time thinking about what shows to reboot. I just want to point out that if you look at the last year, between ‘Mare of Easttown,’ ‘The White Lotus’ and ‘Succession,’ and ‘Insecure,’ and now ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Gilded Age’ and going into ‘Winning Time,’ there’s no reboots. In most of those cases, they weren’t based on existing IP. I do want to take a moment to make clear that we don’t spend our days thinking about what to reboot because it’s a tricky business bringing a show back.”

Then, he shot down the rumors about ‘Six Feet Under’ by adding:

“But to your question, ‘True Blood,’ there were a couple ideas in development, but nothing has really come to the fore. As far as ‘Six Feet Under,’ I personally don’t think that’s a good idea. I think there are some shows that are better left, in ‘Six Feet Under’s’ case, dead — or finished. So, no other news on that front.”

The 2001 show ended in 2005 by showing the future of every Fisher family member with a flash forward to their deaths. Some sources and fans referred to it as ‘one of the greatest TV series finales of all time.’

That’s why Bloys stressed that there wouldn’t be a rebooted version of it in a 2023 interview with Variety by saying it was ‘never really in the works.’
