Jon Schaffer recently addressed the idea of reuniting Iced Earth, sharing his thoughts during an appearance on Podcast Of The Wicked. The band’s founder discussed where he currently stands on reforming the group, noting that he has already received substantial financial offers to make it happen. When asked directly about any plans to bring Iced Earth back, Schaffer made his priorities clear.
“Look, the short answer is no, not anytime soon,” Schaffer said. “I just want the fans to know that this has been a lot, and I’ve had great offers, great financial offers [to bring Iced Earth back], so if it was about chasing money, but that’s a checkers move, first of all.”
He went on to stress that quality and inspiration, not money, are what drive him: “And it wouldn’t be good for me or the band or the crew or the fans, because I need to do this because I love it, and whatever happens needs to happen and be truly inspired and not a ‘good’ Iced Earth record or a ‘good’ show or whatever; it’s gotta be gold,” he continued. “And that’s gonna take some time.”
Schaffer’s comments arrive amid continued speculation about the band’s future, following major upheavals in recent years. Iced Earth’s hiatus was triggered after Schaffer’s arrest for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, which dramatically altered the band’s trajectory and activities.
Despite this, interest in a reunion remains. Former Iced Earth vocalist Matt Barlow has said he would be open to returning if Schaffer decided to relaunch the band. “I am not closed to the idea,” Barlow said, while emphasizing that such a decision rests entirely with Schaffer, calling Iced Earth “a hundred percent” his project.
The financial offers Schaffer mentioned highlight the enduring commercial appeal of the Iced Earth brand. As Blabbermouth reported, he has received “great financial offers” to revive the band, but his focus remains on artistic integrity over monetary incentives.
Ultimately, Schaffer’s remarks suggest that while a reunion may still be possible, fans will need to wait until the right creative spark emerges.
