Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix has opened up about his spiritual journey, publicly affirming his Christian faith during a recent live performance. The heartfelt moment, captured by a fan and shared on Instagram, showed Shaddix discussing his sobriety and the transformation that followed.
“I finally put the bottle down 13 years ago. More than 13 years ago,” Shaddix said. “And about a year after that, I finally gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Changed my life forever.”
After the show, the vocalist elaborated on his decision to speak openly about his faith. “I have recently been convicted to share my faith walk with the world,” he commented on the video. “I will be honest it’s been a rocky road littered with failure and sin but I continue to turn my will and my life over to the lord one day at a time. GOD KEEP DOING YOUR WORK ON ME! Praise Jesus!”
This marks a deeply personal revelation from the musician, who has maintained sobriety for over 13 years.
Shaddix’s path to sobriety has been marked by struggle and perseverance. According to Spin, he first began his sobriety journey in 2005, battling alcoholism throughout the peak of Papa Roach’s fame in the early 2000s. He has remained consistently sober since 2012.
Over the years, Shaddix has spoken about how sobriety reshaped his personal and family life. Loudwire reported that he credits support groups and fellow musicians for helping him stay grounded while touring, allowing him to become a better husband and father.
In February 2024, Blabbermouth noted that Shaddix celebrated 12 years of sobriety, expressing gratitude for the support he’s received. His recent public declaration of faith adds a spiritual dimension to that journey, revealing the faith that underpins his transformation.
Shaddix’s candidness about his faith reflects a growing openness among rock artists who share their personal and spiritual struggles with fans. While Papa Roach has long explored themes of redemption and resilience in their music, this moment represents the first time Shaddix has spoken so explicitly about his Christian faith in public.
