In his recent Twitter post, Steve Stevens, the guitarist for Billy Idol, expressed his thoughts about The Dead And The Company and who he thinks is the best fit as a guitarist. The post included a fan-recorded video of the said member. Mentioning their early member, Jerry Garcia, the post read the following:
“There is no guitarist on the planet better suited to play with Dead And Company than John Mayer. Everything about his approach is paying homage to [Jerry] Garcia. By the way, little known fact, Mickey Hart was my upstairs neighbor for awhile.”
An hour later, he posted a follow-up tweet in response to a comment from one of his followers on his previous tweet. The follower expressed annoyance towards the ‘hype’ that Mayer receives, to which he replied with:
“My post was purely praising John for obviously being a fan of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia. In the clips that I have seen, he plays in a very different style. He’s playing what is absolutely right for the Dead. That is a skill that many guitarists lack.”
After Garcia’s passing in 1995, the members of Grateful Dead made the decision to disband. However, in 2015, a new band called Dead & Company emerged with former Grateful Dead members, as well as Mayer.
