Alice Cooper recently recalled how he used to babysit Keanu Reeves and explained why the actor became his studio ‘mascot’ while speaking to Stereogum.

Reeves had previously revealed Cooper’s babysitting during an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2017, so when the host asked Alice whether he actually looked after a young Keanu, the rocker answered:

“Yeah, I did. We were making ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ in Toronto. Instead of a hotel, I was staying at… [producer] Bob Ezrin had a friend that had a Victorian house right across the street, and they were from Hawaii. They had this little six-year-old kid that always wanted to come over to the studio, and his name was ‘Ke.'”

He carried on by further detailing his time with the six-year-old Reeves:

“He had black hair. He became our mascot. I would bring him over to the studio, and I’d say, ‘Do you want to go get some ice cream?’ ‘Yeah, let’s go get ice cream.’ ‘Okay…’ Then he would come over, and we had a big black dog there, and he loved to play with the dog. But we absolutely sort of took him in as our mascot, and he loved being in the studio.”

However, apparently, Cooper had ‘no idea’ that the kid he looked after, ‘Ke,’ was actually ‘Keanu’ until he saw the actor’s Fallon interview:

“So I’m watching the Jimmy Fallon show, and they’re interviewing him. Jimmy Fallon pulls out a ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ album. And he says, ‘What does this mean to you?’ And he goes, ‘Oh yeah, well, Alice was my babysitter.’ And I sat there, and I went, ‘What?’ And then I thought, ‘Ke, Keanu. Oh my gosh.’ I had no idea. And then I realized it was him. I used to babysit John Wick.”

Reeves, years after accompanying Cooper in the studio, also went on to found his own band, Dogstar, and recently reunited with his former bandmates, two decades after their initial disbandment. The actor also revealed in another recent interview the real reason behind the band’s comeback and the rocker he couldn’t stop listening to.

Recently speaking to Southern Accents Radio with Dave Cobb on Apple Music, Alice Cooper revealed the Beatles song that inspired him to start a band while discussing his early influences.

The rocker recalled the first time he heard the Beatles, saying:

“[It was] the very first Beatles song I heard. I was painting my house, it was 1963 or 64, and I’m painting my house in summertime listening to the Four Seasons and the Beach Boys, you know? And all of a sudden, I heard, ‘She Loves You. Yeah, yeah, yeah…’ I stopped, and I went, ‘What was that?’ It was totally different from anything I’d ever heard.”

Cooper then didn’t know about the band’s popularity, as he explained:

“I hadn’t heard any hype about the Beatles. I didn’t know that they had long hair. I didn’t know that they wore Beatle boots and wore suits and were from England. I had no idea.”

The musician stated that the Beatles encouraged him to form a band:

“I just heard the song, and then an hour later, I heard, ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand.’ And I went, ‘What is going on? Who are these guys?’ And the next thing I know, I mean, my friends and I just sat back and said, ‘We gotta be in a band.’ I don’t care what band you’re in; I don’t care if you’re in Cradle of Filth; you learn from the Beatles.”

The Godfather of Shock Rock’s love for the Beatles is no secret. In a chat with LA Weekly last year, the singer had named the band among the three acts that young bands should listen to if they wish to improve themselves musically. The Beach Boys and The Four Seasons were the other bands he included in his suggestions.

In the latest interview with Artists On Record, Neal Smith shared the name of the band he almost signed up with instead of Alice Cooper. The drummer provided the name directly and said the following:

“I had met Twisted Sister, and I love those guys, and I’d seen them play around that same era, the late ’70s, early ’80s. And at one time, I actually did go down, and in audition, they were looking for a drummer, and I sat in with them and jammed with them. I had a blast; I love it, and we’ve been friends ever since.”

The drummer also reflected on his thoughts about Twisted Sister being more significant in one thing than Alice Cooper. He said:

“Really, think about it; they were more of a headbanger band than Alice Cooper, that’s for sure. I would have had a blast, but it was fun to do. But it worked out for the best because they found a great drummer, and everybody in the band was always cool.”

Except for the fact that Smith auditioned for Twisted Sister, the two bands have a song together as well. The song is titled  ‘Be Chrool To Your Scuel,’ for which you can see the music video here.

One of Talking Heads‘ biggest hits was David Bryne‘s second attempt at songwriting. Despite having doubts about making it in the music scene, the singer shared on 60 Minutes that two names played a part in making the song that changed his life; he said:

“I had no hopes of being a musician. I thought, [that] those people have proper training. They can play way better than I can; I’ll never catch up.”

Those two names were Alice Cooper and Randy Newman, and Bryne wanted to combine the two; he added:

“I think I tried to write one when I was in high school, and it was really bad. ‘Psycho Killer’ was a second attempt. It was inspired by Alice Cooper and Randy Newman. And I thought, ‘What if those two got together and wrote a song about a serial killer?'”

However, it turns out the initial inspiration for ‘Psycho Killer’ came from Cooper’s frightening stage shows. As David made progress with the song, he later imagined Cooper singing a Newman-style balled, and that was how the song came to be.

Bryne even explained his thought process of making the rack in the liner notes for the compilation album ‘Once in a Lifetime: The Best of Talking Heads’ where he wrote:

“When I started writing this (I got help later), I imagined Alice Cooper doing a Randy Newman-type ballad.”
