If you’re following America’s Got Talent closely, you might have heard that Steel Panther auditioned for the show’s new season. The season premiere was aired on May 30, and the band appeared live on the show on August 29. Although the judges said they loved the band, ultimately, the band was eliminated through the votes of the audience.

The band performed one of their hits, ‘Death To All But Metal,’ with a few changes in the lyrics in order to appear on NBC during primetime. After their elimination, the band shared a statement via Twitter. The statement read:

“Huge thanks to all the fans who voted for us AGT! It wasn’t in the cards for us this time but, don’t you worry… Like a bad case of herpes, you can’t get rid of us that easily. The battle rages on and we will never stop flying the banner of Heavy Metal!”

After the performance was over, the judges shared their admiration for the band. While Simon Cowell told the band that they were his favorite so far, and Sofia Vergara claimed that America would love them.

Stix Zadiana, the drummer of Steel Panther, recently spoke to Metal Edge about their performance on America’s Got Talent. Performing ‘Eyes of a Panther’, the drummer was asked why they chose the song. He explained:

“It wasn’t a hard choice because ‘Eyes of a Panther’ is one of the cleanest songs we have. So, that was a major factor. But the other thing is that ‘Eyes of a Panther’ is super high-energy, up-tempo, and rocking, and it’s an anthem for our band. So, those things also made the choice easy.

He revealed whether or not the band will be in the second round:

But for the next round, the choice will be a lot more difficult because of the lyrics and the rules we have to follow on network TV.”

Simon Cowell, one of the judges in the competition, is publicly known for heavily criticizing the contestants in the show. After winning Cowell over, the drummer was asked how it felt. He replied:

“It meant a lot. We’ve been playing since forever, right? From the very start, we’ve been a band that gets onstage and says, ‘We’re here to have fun and bring heavy metal back.‘ I mean… we’ve done what we’ve done over the years, and it’s been an amazing ride.”

He went on:

“But when you get on a network like NBC, or any of the big networks, it’s a different world. So, to get the stamp of approval from a guy like Simon meant a lot. But that doesn’t mean it changes the way I see this band because it doesn’t. But it might change a lot of people’s minds perception-wise.”

The band first revealed the news on their Twitter account with the explanation:

“Look out! AGT is about to get a whole lot more metal! Don’t miss the season premiere next Tuesday (5/30) at 8PM local!”

The performance was on the screens on May 27 and though not all of the audience was happy to hear such music, it was liked by all the judges. The dates of the next round haven’t been released yet.

Steel Panther recently took the stage on America’s Got Talent with Eyes of A Panther from their 2009 debut, Feel The Steel.

Before the performance took place, Steel Panther’s Satchel surprised jury members Sophia Vergara and Heidi Klum:

“Let me just say before we go on, we decided backstage to give Sophia and Heidi tickets to Steel Panther for life and backstage passes included.“

Although the band’s decision seemed a bit like they were trying to infiltrate the jury, the guitarist was quick to add:

“Not trying to influence the judging in any way.”

After the laughter, Klum and Vergara thanked the band; Michael Starr then took the mic and explained why the Steel Panther is on AGT’s stage:

“This is the best way to reach so many other people have never seen us before and teach them the ways of heavy metal and we just wanted to come on the show because we want to; we wanna win.“

Steel Panther’s performance was liked by all of the jury members, given that they received four yes votes, but that does not mean everyone in the studio was happy. We can see a man covering his ears while the band was performing right at 2:28 on the performance video, which you can view below
