Shannon Price, an American actress who featured in ‘Divorce Court’ (1999) and ‘The Gary I Knew’ (2020), had a tumultuous relationship with child star Gary Coleman. Although Shannon didn’t have many notable roles to her name in Hollywood, her association with Coleman brought her a fair amount of media attention.
Price and Coleman’s paths crossed for the first time in 2007 on the set of the movie ‘Church Ball.’ Their relationship moved at a rapid pace, resulting in a marriage proposal by Price, who was 22 at the time, to 39-year-old Coleman. According to the actor, their wedding was a private ceremony at the Valley of the Fire State Park, with only a handful of attendees:
“Nobody was around but the minister, preacher, the videographers, the photographer, the helicopter pilot, and us.”

The initial glow of the marital bond soon faded, and issues surfaced between the two. To address their differences, they appeared on ‘Divorce Court’ on May 1 and May 2, hoping to salvage their relationship.
According to Price, Coleman didn’t want to leave the house and go out with her. As reported by DivorceMag, she also said he had anger issues:
“If he doesn’t get his way, he throws a temper tantrum like a five-year-old does. He, like, stomps the floor and yells, ‘Meehhhh!’ and starts throwing stuff around. He bashes his head in the wall, too.”
However, by August 2008, Coleman had filed for divorce, marking the end of their marriage. In an interesting twist, post-divorce, Price and Coleman continued to cohabit as roommates, which the actress referred to as a common-law marriage. During this period, Price was reportedly involved with other men.

In 2010, Coleman tragically died following an accidental fall. ABC News reports that she called 911 on May 26 and told the emergency dispatchers the following after seeing her husband lying on the floor:
“He just got home. I heard this big bang, and I went downstairs. There’s blood everywhere. I don’t know what happened. He fell, and I don’t know. There was blood all over, and I can’t do anything. I don’t want him to die. I’m freaking out.”
Coleman was rushed to the hospital after the accident, but he passed away two days later at 42. In a statement she issued, Shannon said the following about her husband’s death:
“We are very grateful for all the wonderful support everyone has been extending to Gary’s family. Thousands of e-mails have poured into the hospital. This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is.”
The aftermath sparked speculation about Price’s involvement in the incident and her decision to disconnect Coleman’s life support. In her defense, Price claimed that they were still technically married under Utah’s common-law provision. She even tried to claim a share of her late ex-husband’s estate.
However, her claim was disputed due to a previous domestic dispute between the couple, resulting in Price’s arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. The court ruled that Price was not entitled to any part of Coleman’s estate, stating their relationship didn’t meet Utah’s standard for a common-law marriage. Despite suspicions surrounding Price’s potential involvement in Coleman’s accident, the investigation concluded with the medical examiner ruling his death an accident, finding no evidence of foul play.

After Coleman’s death, Price’s acting career faced more challenges. Her most notable TV appearance remained the episode of ‘Divorce Court,’ where she appeared alongside her late husband. She also sparked controversy by offering deathbed photos of Coleman to TMZ for $10,000. Despite the efforts of her agent, Shielia Erickson, Price found it difficult to secure roles in film or TV.
In 2020, Price made headlines again with her appearance in the documentary film, ‘The Gary I Knew.‘ However, her marital troubles, divorce, and the events following Coleman’s death resulted in a lack of significant roles in film and television.
Shannon Price has since decided to step out of the public glare. Today, she remains under the radar, seemingly choosing to distance herself from the Hollywood scene and the controversies that once marked her career. According to ActLings.com, Shannon is now working at WeWork as its tri-state director of broker relations.
