Miley Cyrus Shares The Personal Tragedy Behind The Glastonbury Show

Miley Cyrus recently spoke with People Magazine and opened up about her now-finished relationship with Liam Hemsworth. Miley mentioned that the foundation of their marriage wasn’t solely based on positive aspects:

“Me and Liam’s commitment to being married, of course came from a place of love first because we had been together for 10 years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could.”

She also revealed the moment when she realized she didn’t want to continue with the relationship:

“The day of the [Glastonbury] show was the day I had decided it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship. That was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first. I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that not to be the case — that the human comes first.”

The Glastonbury Festival in 2019 is significant in this context because on that day, Miley’s plane almost crashed. It is also reported that Hemsworth was supposed to accompany Miley but he didn’t show up.

In another interview, Miley mentioned that the trauma of losing their home in Malibu due to forest fires created a bonding experience between them that led to their marriage:

“Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged—I don’t know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu—which if you listen to my voice pre- and post-fire, they’re very different so that trauma really affected my voice.”

In the same interview, regarding why their relationship ended, Miley said:

“There was too much conflict. When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”
