Billy Corgan Questions the Impact of the Adult Film Industry

Billy Corgan recently offered his thoughts on the adult film industry, sharing concerns about systemic exploitation and the psychological dynamics of consumption during his appearance on the Club Random Podcast.

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman argued that some industries profit from exploiting human nature. “There are systems in place that want to exploit human decency. In essence, if you can separate a human from their own decency, well, there’s a lot of money to be made. You know, p*rn is a perfect example,” Corgan said.

He further explained his personal views on the industry and clarified his stance on consumption.

“I’m not saying it’s evil. What I’m saying is p*rn on some level requires a dissociative frame of mind to enjoy it. I don’t watch p*rn. I don’t believe in watching p*rn. My point was it requires a level of disassociation. In essence, you have to on some level disassociate that this is a human being who may or may not be in that position for all the wrong reasons. Maybe it’s all the right reasons. I’m friends with a very famous porn star who did it purposely, intentionally, and is not is not damaged by it,” he continued.

Corgan also referred to statistics reflecting the industry’s digital expansion. “I don’t know if this is accurate, but this is like sort of anecdotal. I heard somebody talking recently. They were saying with with the numbers on Only Fans that they estimate that 1.4% of the population of the United States is now doing p*rn,” he noted.

His remarks tie into a broader interest in how modern industries and technology shape society and individual psychology. Over time, Corgan has become more outspoken about cultural change and its psychological effects.

According to Fortune, he recently launched a weekly interview podcast, The Magnificent Others, where he explores cultural trends and the future of media. This format allows him to expand on his observations of how industries influence human behavior. His conversation on Club Random emphasized not only exploitation within adult entertainment but also broader technological disruptions across entertainment.

As YouTube documented, he connected these issues to the wider shifts in content creation and consumption, including challenges posed by AI and digital platforms. Corgan’s reflections on dissociation and decency extend beyond adult film into questions about how digital culture is reshaping human interaction. Player FM highlighted that the Club Random Podcast frequently explores how technology and media consumption affect psychological health and social connections.

Corgan’s comments also resonate in the context of platforms like OnlyFans, which have significantly expanded the adult creator economy. His mention of the 1.4% statistic underscores ongoing public conversations about the normalization of adult content as a mainstream income source—especially among younger people facing economic pressures.

These remarks were part of his Club Random Podcast appearance, where he touched on multiple issues related to society, culture, and human behavior.
