Fleabag Actress Sian Clifford’s Daily Self-Scan Routine

In 2020, Sian Clifford talked about the motivation behind her wellness website, Still Space, in a chat with Porter Magazine. She said the idea came to her after a breakdown she had following her breakthrough with ‘Fleabag.’

On the website itself, the actress described the aim of her content as ‘speaking to and from her soul.’ But she revealed other methods to achieve that while having an interview with the Thanks A Million with Angela Scanlon podcast a few years ago.

According to her words, Clifford picked up new routines to check on herself during the Covid-19 lockdown:

“I’ll always have a little check-in with myself. I might do that in bed. I might do that whilst I’m having some warm water. I might do that as a meditation. So that’s one of the ingredients. I just take a moment to notice how I’m feeling.”

Delving into her method, she went on:

“Before I check my phone, before I engage with anyone or anything outside of myself, I just do all sorts of scans. It might be – well, it will be – all of these, but a physical scan, an emotional scan, and just noticing what’s going on with me.”

The actress shared how often she followed this plan by saying:

“I find the more regularly I do that, and I’m all about consistency over doing this once a week for an hour, I think it’s better if you do have these tiny little moments throughout your day. And when you start doing that, you open up a dialogue with yourself that’s quite profound, to be honest.”

As for the benefit of her self-check routine, she added:

“You start learning things about yourself. You start noticing more subtle things and how your body’s communicating with you. What’s what I do, not in a heavy way. It’s just a really light 30 seconds. Sometimes, I’ll take longer.”

Elsewhere, Clifford revealed that she wished to ‘destroy the delusion that business and burnout equate to success’ with meditation. While speaking of it in a chat with Porter Magazine, the ‘Fleabag’ actress even mentioned the classes she held on the subject.

In fact, she recorded an introduction to meditation video for the magazine as an example and gave advice to her followers about the topic by saying:

“I always encourage people to do it for, like, 30 seconds, something that might seem laughable to them. So they know they can do it. They shouldn’t go over that time period because what you do is reinforce an idea that you can do it; you can show up to it, and it creates a feeling of success.”
