Lana Del Rey recently sat down with Joan Baez during a screening of the latter’s documentary, ‘I Am a Noise’ in Los Angeles. Throughout the interview, Del Rey seemed fond of the folk singer as she praised Baez by calling her the ‘toughest woman’ she knew and holding her career as ‘exemplary’ in rock history.

The ‘Dance ‘Till We Die’ singer said:

“The emotion you portray when you were 18 and now throughout the film is so relatable that it’s just been massively acclaimed already.”

She then added what caught her off guard about Baez’s film:

“Just because of how specific your emotions were and how much solace people found in the vulnerability that you had in the film, which to me was the most unexpected thing. And on top of that, the stunning cinematography, and the seamless editing, just to me made it a classic film.”

Del Rey then revealed what made her ‘fall in love’ with Joan:

“Especially, my favorite documentary since I was 18 was something, [was something] you drew footage from, D.A. Pennebaker’s ‘Dont Look Back,’ which is when I fell in love with you, Joan.”

She continued by opening up about the the folk icon’s life and the film:

“It’s an instant classic and I think when somebody famous — or well-known as we like to be called — makes the film that’s the greatest compliment you can have that it wouldn’t even have mattered if it was just someone who was working in everyday job that it was just absolutely striking.”

The singer finished by calling Joan ‘a blueprint’ and thanking her for being an exemplary figure:

“On behalf of all female, passionate, empathetic singers, may I say that then in that case, everyone here has witnessed a miracle miracle. And I’d like to thank Joan for being a blueprint in that way.”

Lana lastly added:

“It’s nice to see someone’s trajectory from nervousness to letting everything happen on life’s timeline. It was life’s timeline. You never know when you’re gonna get to that point if you get to that point. And I just want to say thank you.”

Joe Bonamassa recently celebrated ‘the big victory’ for touring artists who fought back against venues taking all the profit in merchandise sales on X. Then, he theorized that, perhaps, this ‘victory’ was just a diversion.

The guitarist tweeted:

“You could argue that this is big victory for touring artists. One could also argue that this is perfunctory gesture to draw attention away from the much bigger grift. Ticket Fees, $15 beer, $50 parking fleece the fans and generate huge profits that artists don’t participate in.”

He also responded to a fan who tweeted that they’d come to see him at the Fox venue in Atlanta, GA, and was wondering whether the venue  would be profiting from ticket sales:

“It’s Ticketmaster [that is profiting] and not the Fox. It’s a very weird system.”

Although Linda Blair made a name for herself as a ‘scream queen’ and took on roles others considered ‘disturbing,’ like her role in ‘The Exorcist;’ there were times when the actress also heated up controversies.

In the early 70s, for instance, the actress accepted to appear in a controversial drama movie, which also would become the most-watched televised movie of 1974.

However, even with the commercial success, Blair’s role as Chris Parker in ‘Born Innocent,’ would prove to be very controversial; later becoming the actress’ lowest-rated movie on IMDb. [with a 6.2]

Now, if you’re thinking about giving the film a shot, it might be the best time for you to take a step back from this article, as there’ll be spoilers below. However, if you have no interest in watching the film and just want to learn why it was so controversial, well, let’s dive into it.

First, let’s talk about the plot. Well, the movie was about a teenage girl called Chris Parker, who’d often run away from home since her father abused her. During one of these getaways, she would be placed in a girls’ detention center, and that’s how things would start to go downhill.

The detention center would prove to be not much different than Chris’ troubled family, and the young girl would be subjected to sexual and verbal assault, by the other girls.

The said sexual assault scene, especially, became the topic of heated discussions right after the movie landed, as many [including National Organization for Women and New York Rape Coalition] criticized the film for the brutal scene.

LGBTQ+ organizations also criticized the movie for having ‘negative connations’ on lesbians, as many allied organizations dismissed ‘Born Innocent’ and the controversial sexual assault scene as ‘propaganda against lesbians.’

However, the real trouble came down when a 10-year-old kid was sexually assaulted by their peers, who allegedly mentioned the movie’s name and claimed to be inspired by the sexual assault scene when the police were interrogating them.

The victim’s mother even filed a lawsuit against NBC and the film, for allegedly provoking the crime and influencing children, but the case was dismissed and the film wasn’t held accountable for the sexual assault of a 10-year-old.

Still, the shower scene where the assault took place was cut from the movie in many viewings. However, against all the controversies, Linda Blair was reportedly happy with the film, as she believed that the sexual assault scene helped victims to come forward.

Tina Weymouth recently discussed how U2 blasted their own chances to make a better doc than the Talking Heads’ 1984 concert film, ‘Stop Making Sense,’ while speaking with AP News.

The 1984 doc only recently saw a re-release at the Toronto International Film Festival and will see a global release in theaters on September 29.

So, as the Talking Heads members reunited to celebrate the film, Weymouth discussed how U2 had tried to make a ‘better’ production than ‘Stop Making Sense’:

“U2 wanted to make a film that was better than ‘Stop Making Sense’ and then they went and ruined it by doing all those interviews. The art should be separate from the personalities. So you don’t get all the dysfunction.”

Then, the former bassist shared how the band still had chemistry, even with all the complexities that took place since their break up in 1991:

“This is going to sound really ridiculous but I think about the fusion of the sun. It implodes and explodes. And I think that push and pull was so magical to our creative forces, the way that we worked together, the way we were supportive of each other. It was very special and none of us has found it again. If we sat down and played music, we’d be connecting again.”

Other than helping the Talking Heads reunite, the documentary is also a critic and audience favorite and has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s also celebrated by national institutions, as the Library of Congress picked the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, calling it, ‘historically, culturally, and aesthetically of significance.’

Boy George recently shared what his first thoughts regarding Napalm Death were in an X post.

The singer tweeted that he’d been to a Napalm Death concert in Australia on September 13, and shared a video of the gig while praising vocalist Barney Greenway. George’s caption stated:

“Saw the noise monsters, Napalm Death, last night, and my ears are still ringing. Loved all of the stuff Barney had to say. Totally tight band [no other way of saying it, lol]. Hey, Barney! See you at the coffee counter! Comment of the night [was], ‘Shut up you fresh-faced f*cker.'”

George is currently in Australia as he’s touring with the Culture Club. The singer had been busy before these dates as well, as he’d been on a U.S. tour all across the country, accompanied by Howard Jones and Berlin.

Greenway and his buddies, on the other hand, are getting ready to tour the U.K. and France next month. Then, the band will carry on their touring in Japan as their scheduled dates in December are now up for sale.

Mick Jagger recently discussed how Lady Gaga got involved in the Rolling Stones’ upcoming album, ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ while sitting down with Rolling Stone magazine.

Apparently, Gaga’s involvement was spontaneous, as she happened to be recording at the same studio. So, Jagger recalled how, during one random session, the singer asked if she could pop in:

“She just walked in, in front of me, and me, and she just curled up in a ball in front of me on the floor. And then someone gave her a mic, and she started singing oohs and ahs.”

Then, Jagger’s bandmate, Ronnie Wood, cut in and also recalled how they initially decided to recruit Gaga:

“She was sitting there on the floor just digging it and singing along, and Mick said, ‘Well, come on in. Stand up. Let’s make a thing of this then. Let’s do it properly.'”

Gaga will feature on the track, ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven,’ and she’s not the only one to be working with the Rolling Stones on ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ [which will be set for release on October 20].

The name behind the producer’s seat is Andrew Watt, who’d worked with Ozzy Osbourne, Post Malone, and Iggy Pop in the past. Rock n’ roll royalty such as Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones’ original bassist Bill Wyman, and Elton John will also appear on different tracks.

Huey Lewis recently recalled his friendship and ‘unfinished business’ with Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott while speaking with Songfacts.

It was reported prior to Lynott’s passing in the mid-80s that Lewis was supposed to produce the singer’s then-upcoming album. So, when the host asked about the ‘rumor,’ Huey said:

“We cut three songs with Philip. His management asked if I would produce a record for Philip, and I said, ‘Well, I don’t know if I have the time to do a whole record, but I’ll do three tracks.’ And they said, ‘OK, fine.'”

However, the pair’s ‘business’ had remained ‘unfinished’ due to a tragedy:

“So, he came over to America and we cut three things. He only had eight days or something and we didn’t finish them; we didn’t get the vocals done. We got them most of the way, and unfortunately, he went back to Britain and then passed away [in 1986].”

Still, Lewis’ memories of Lynott were fond, as the rocker recalled his friendship with the late frontman:

“Philip was my mentor. First of all, there was nobody better on stage. There was never a better hard-rock band than Thin Lizzy. They were unbelievable. He took me under his wing and really taught me everything, not musically, necessarily, but everything about being a ‘rock-and-roll star,’ if you will.”

The rocker further continued by praising Phil’s mentorship of him and the Irish star’s early life:

“Philip was an amazing rock star. He was a Black kid born in the middle of Dublin, Ireland, and went to an all-white school. He was a peacock to begin with, he was different, and he loved being a rock star. He taught me everything about how to deal with your band, your crew, the critics, the record label, management, fans. He really was just instrumental in forming my education. I miss him every day.”

Lynott’s final album was a solo one, with ‘The Phil Lynott Album,’ released in 1982. His last years as a rocker, however, were a bit quieter as he struggled with addiction. Still, the former Thin Lizzy frontman also managed to find chart success with the single, ‘Out in the Fields,’ with Gary Moore in 1984, two years before his passing.

Charlie Robison reportedly passed away at 59, as his wife, Kristen Robison, announced on Facebook, on September 10. She wrote:

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that my husband, Charlie Robison, has passed away today, surrounded by his family and friends. My heart is broken. Please pray for me, our children, and our family.”

It was later revealed that the late singer’s cause of death was due to cardiac arrest, and it was known that the country star had been struggling with his health, as he had to retire due to throat surgery a few years ago.

Robison was considered a cult name in the mainstream country scene, especially in Texas, as he’d scored himself a prominent place with hits like, ‘My Hometown,’ and commercially successful albums like, ‘Life of the Party’ and ‘Step Right Up.’

Dolly Parton recently spoke with BBC Radio and revealed how she got involved in Priscilla Presley’s infamous divorce from Elvis Presley in 1973.

The country icon was discussing her hit classic, ‘I Will Always Love You,’ when, she shared how Priscilla recently told her of the track’s involvement in the couple’s divorce, saying:

“Elvis loved the song. In fact, I talked to talked to Priscilla not very long ago. She said to me, ‘You know, Elvis sang that song to me when we walked down the courthouse steps when we got divorced. He was singing to me, ‘I Will Always Love You.'”

It was reported that Elvis had wished to buy the song from Dolly in the 70s and record it himself, but the country singer was reluctant to give up half of her publishing rights and claims to Elvis’ management.

However, although the Presley and Parton collaboration never happened the way the late rocker wanted, Dolly will be paying homage to Elvis in her upcoming album, ‘Rockstar,’ with a track called, ‘I Dreamed About Elvis.’

Her forthcoming record, which will be set for release on November 17, is a tribute to her Rock Hall induction and features names such as Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Peter Frampton, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, and Creedence Clearwater Revival singer John Fogerty.

Steve Harris recently chatted with the Sweden Rock Festival’s YouTube channel and revealed why Bruce Dickinson was behind Iron Maiden’s touring scale-down.

Harris is currently touring with both his solo band, British Lion, and Iron Maiden, so when the host asked how he found the time and energy to do so, the bassist revealed:

“I started [British Lion] 11 years ago; I’ve been playing with them [for] 11 years. But before that, I wouldn’t have been able to do it, ’cause Maiden was too busy. In the last 10 years, Maiden’s not been so busy; we’ve not been touring as long. So, basically, it enabled me to have a bit of time to do something else.”

Then, Steve discussed why Maiden had scaled down their touring dates when the host asked whether he wanted to play live more:

“Yeah, I still enjoy playing, so, yeah, I play as much as I can. I’ll be happy to play four or five nights a week, but you can’t do it — for singers, you can’t do it. It was tough for Bruce [Dickinson] back in the day, let alone now back in the day, let alone now. I think he’s singing better than ever, but it’s quality, not quantity, with Maiden now.”

Harris’ band, British Lion, just finished up a 15-date-tour all across Europe, and the bassist continues to hit the road with Iron Maiden as their ‘scaled down’ tour dates carry on with several dates in Canada starting on September 28.
