After June Diane Raphael and Jane Fonda started working together as mother and daughter in ‘Grace & Frankie,’ Raphael mentioned feeling ‘honored’ to work with the 85-year-old actress in her past interviews.
In a chat with CherryPicks, she pointed out that collaborating with Fonda influenced her depiction of Brianna and helped her ‘learn about herself’ through the character.
Speaking to Insider in 2020, the actress gave more details about what she got from her co-star through the years by saying:
“The biggest thing that she’s really taught me about is how much strength there is in vulnerability and how she is a perpetual student. An eternal student. There’s no ego in wanting to learn more, wanting to do better, and striving at any age.”
Raphael’s 2020 interview took place a few months after Fonda was arrested for a protest against the exploration and extraction of fossil fuels. The ‘9 to 5’ actress later revealed that Greta Thunberg inspired her to take action on the matter before starting filming the 6th season of ‘Grace & Frankie.’
So, Raphael referred to her co-star’s approach to work and activism as follows:
“I’ve learned so much from watching her work and having her be a dear friend. It’s been incredible to be able to witness her and all that she is. It truly seems like how I want to approach my life.”
The ‘Big Mouth’ actress also once revealed that Fonda’s actions and ideals affected her fight for women’s rights in politics and work. As a result, she founded The Jane Club to offer women childcare and support in their workspace.
She also released a book about women in politics called ‘Represent: The Woman’s Guide to Running for Office and Changing the World’ in 2019.
